Northern Kentucky Clippers have been awarded the top honor of a Gold Medal ranking in the USA Swimming Club Excellence program, recognizing the organization’s highest-performing clubs in the development of athletes 18 years and younger. Clippers were one of two clubs in the Greater Cincinnati Area to earn this award.
The Northern Kentucky Clippers top athletes tallied 24,101 points finishing fourteenth and earning Gold Medal Club recognition.
“The Clippers are honored to be named a Gold Medal swim team for the second time in the history of the Club Excellence Program,” said Chad Rehkamp, Clippers Head Coach. “Being a Gold Medal Team which was ranked 14th in the USA is an achievement reached because of the dedication of our 18 & under athletes, their coaches, parents, and the people who laid a foundation starting in 1979. It’s truly a ‘team effort’ for us to help young athletes in our program reach their highest potential. Thanks to USA Swimming, for the recognition.”
In its 20th year, the Club Excellence program identifies clubs that execute strong, and well-rounded programs. The top 20 clubs earn Gold level ranking and those rated 21-100 are designated as Silver honorees. The next 100 clubs are recognized at the Bronze level.
“USA Swimming is fortunate to have dedicated athletes and coaches doing incredible work in pools across the country. The clubs who have earned Gold, Silver or Bronze honors are building future champions who will continue our success at the international level,” said USA Swimming Managing Director of Sport Development Joel Shinofield. “We are excited and honored to again distribute $400,000 in grants to the top 100-ranked clubs in 2020.”
In addition to recognizing high-performing teams, the program provides grant funding that enable clubs to expand and enhance the services already provided to athletes. A total of $400,000 in grants will be distributed to the 100 Gold- and Silver-level clubs.
