Georgia Open

Congrats to SwimAtlanta for Winning Jr. Nats!

The update was sent too early without edits - please see new update and congrats to all teams!
Gwinnett-based SwimAtlanta won its first Junior Nationals championships in 21 years over the weekend, and one of its swimmers did something rarer in the meet at Georgia Tech.

Mill Creek senior Jake Magahey became the first high-schooler in the history of USA Swimming with a time under 20 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and a time under 15 minutes in the 1,650 free, a double in the meet’s shortest and longest events.

Magahey, who had personal-best times in 10 of 11 events, was the meet’s high-point award winner. He was not alone though. Other teammates such as UVA commit Jack Aikins worked tough back-to-back doubles and the women topped the mile with a first and seventh place by Abigail McCulloh and Abby Grottle (also first and sixth in the 500 free). Gigi Johnson and Caroline Irwin helped add to the depth as well with great individual swims.

SwimAtlanta had 35 swimmers qualify for the meet — got to celebrate a special team championship as well. SwimAtlanta won 10 Junior Nationals titles from 1985-1998, but had to wait 21 years for another one.
Additionally Dynamo women won for the Overall Women's Team Score with impressive individual swims and relays. Sisters Rye and Tristen Ulett were on fire, helping lead their girls to a win in multiple relays, along with many top 8 finals placement. Along with the Ulett's, Alicia Henry, Kyla Maloney, Hannah Wasmuth, Ainsley Jones, and others had standout swims helping them grab that Top Women's title.

Spartan Aquatic Club also placed in the top 10 for the Men's Team Standings while CCAC just barely missed top 10 by placing 11th, one of the smallest teams in the top 15 standings. We had a great showing from all clubs who attended! Also, thank you to Dynamo for hosting US Open and Junior Nats, along with our officials who also attended and volunteered as well.
