Tragedy Strikes Wauwatosa Swim Team

Heartbreaking news in the world of Wisconsin Swimming

Our hearts go out to all affected by the tragedy that struck Wauwatosa.

On December 22, eight high school senior boys were t-boned by a semi-truck. Five of the boys were taken to the hospital via Flight for Life and one escaped serious injury. One of the boys is still hospitalized, but is recovering.

All eight boys were members of the Wauwatosa East/West Co-op Swim team. Thankfully all the swimmers have survived the accident, unfortunately for seven of the senior boys their high school swim careers have ended all too early.

A GoFundMe page was launched by Heidi Hegwood to help the families with their medical bills. The page has raised $8,128 of the $70,000 goal.

We cheer teammates on at all meets and even when we aren't teammates we cheer swimmers on. We're a community that supports each other in all our ventures, swimming or otherwise, and we hope for a speedy recovery to those boys.

If you'd like to support the families, please click here to donate on the GoFundMe. If you'd prefer to donate directly to an individual family mail a check to Wauwatosa West High School (11400 W Center St, Wauwatosa, WI 53222). Please write the check to the individual student/family (not the swim team or high school) and the checks will be dropped off to their home.

We are one team, one family, one community. We are Wisconsin Swimming.
