SWIM LESSONS
SwimAmerica
WAC Week of January 5 - 11, 2020

Happy New Year! We hope that you had an enjoyable break from school and you were able to get some good training in over the break. We had some great practices, with most of our age groupers tackling the 12 layers of the Christmas Tree before Christmas, the variations on the WAC Classic “Terminator” after Christmas, and the notorious 10x400’s for the High Schooler!  It is through these fun challenges and shared traditions that we forge the memories that will last long after swimmers have hung up their goggles and swimsuits.

We return to our “regular” schedule on Monday January 6th.  As we enter this final stretch into the championship season, please be sure to read emails and check the main website for any practice changes.  Due to the various age-group and interscholastic meets that our athletes and coaches are involved in, there will likely be some changes. This is also a great time to remind you to sign up for SMS messages through your WAC account. This is “THE” main way that we can communicate with everyone at the last minute - and January/February tends to be the time when the weather necessitates last-minute flexibility in our schedule!

WAC-WOR-Dublin Tri-Meet Wrap Up :

Way to go WACsters for a great meet this weekend.  Congratulations to Silver2 swimmer Jessica for earning several new Junior Olympic qualifying times, Bronze2 swimmers Trey Moretti-Slaven (age 7) and Piper Morabito (age 8) for tackling their first “200” events.  Silver1 swimmer Sidney Moore and Bronze1 swimmer Taylor Blackford both swam exceptionally in their first ever “official” WAC meet. Great job to all, and keep up the good (hard) work… we have lots of racing left to do in the next few weeks!

14 & Under Mid-states All Star Championship (hosted at IUPUI in Indianapolis)

Team Ohio finished 2nd in the overall scores, Team Indiana won the meet.   Owen competed in 6 individual events and two relays, with top 8 finishes in all of his events. He swam 100 Free (8th place, lifetime best 53.81), 50 Back (6th place, lifetime best 28.33), 50 Fly (5th place, lifetime best 26.11), 100 Fly (5th), 50 Free (4th), 100 Back (8th), 200 Medley Relay (4th), and 200 Free Relay (4th, Owen split a 24.03!).  Congratulations Owen and all of Team Ohio on a great performance at the All-Star Meet!

Candlelight Kick - This Tuesday 1/7

This year's Candlelight Kick has been moved from its traditional place as a kick off to our Christmas Training Schedule to a kick off to 2020!  This event is a ceremonious opportunity for our athletes, coaches, and parents to reflect upon the past, present, and future successes of our program.   In the past we used actual candles for this ‘kick’, but due to some problems with wax and the pool filters we have transitioned to ‘glowsticks’ instead.

Planned Schedule:

Last Ditch Meet (January 31-Feb. 2nd) - Entries were submitted for this meet. You can see the entries listed on your meet page.  Please note that we have entered relays, however there is a chance the meet host will cancel these if timeline is too long.  Also, the actual relay line-ups are finalized on the day of the meet - so what you see on your meet page for relays is not finalized.  Check with a coach on the day of the meet. There will not be age group practices on Saturday Feb. 1st due to the meet, Waves will have an optional practice 10A @ JC Pool.

Regionals (February 15-17th) - All Bronze/Silver/Gold athletes age 9-14 (and 8th grade and below) are expected to participate fully in the Regional Championship Meet.   In addition to being the culmination of a lot of training hours, we are the co-host for this meet. It is a huge undertaking and will require volunteer hours from all of our families.  We do our best to distribute the work fairly - but please know that everyone will have a role to play in this weekend.

Post-Regionals Swim Practices -  Athletes who do not qualify for further competition will be invited to continue practicing through the week of the Junior Olympic Meet however those practices will be on a combined/reduced schedule.  We will be completely ‘off’ from practices from Junior Olympics (March 13th) until we resume with our Spring Session (April 13th). This is an important time to take a break from the pool and be active in other forms - regenerate your mind and your body, and be ready to splash into the next season!  More info to follow!
