Next Meet: Blizzard Blast in Carson City, January 17 – 19
The next swim meet RENO is going to attend is the Blizzard Blast in Carson City. If you have yet to register, the deadline is Wednesday at midnight.
Zone-4 All Star Team
The annual Zone-4 Pacific All Star meet will take place Saturday February 29 – Sunday, March 1. This year’s meet will take place in Santa Clara, CA. The coaching staff would like to see all eligible RENO swimmers apply to be a part of this all-star team. This meet is a great opportunity for our swimmers to do a travel meet and get to know other swimmers from our area.
To be eligible, the swimmer must be 14-under, have three USA Swimming BB time standards for the age he/she will be on March 1, 2020, and have not been selected for a higher-level all-star team.
If you are wondering if your child meets the time standard requirement, you can pull up your child’s best times in the USA Swimming Database by clicking here.
Then you can see if they meet three BB times by referencing the USA Swimming Age Group Motivational Times. Click here for BB time standards (please be sure you are looking at the right course – long course is page one; short course yards is page two.)
You will need to fill out the all-star application and either mail it with a postmark of Tuesday, January 14 or hand deliver to the all-star desk at the Blizzard Blast in Carson Sunday by 2 PM on Sunday, January 19.
If you have any questions or are unsure if your child is eligible, please let me know.
With the craziness of the Northwest closure and the holidays, I put the parent education section on hold. Now that we are back to a consistent schedule, I will be bringing back the parent education on a weekly basis.
I have shared an article from Olivier Poirier-Leroy before that contains my favorite piece of advice that parents can give to their swimmer: “be the hardest worker and the one having the most fun.”
This piece of advice fits perfectly with my vision for RENO in 2020. I (and the other coaches and swimmers) have some big goals for the team in the new year that will require a lot of hard work from all of us – coaches, swimmers, and parents -- but if we aren’t having fun and enjoying the process along the way then we won’t be successful.
I recommend you take a few minutes to read the full article from Olivier Poirier-Leyor ( click here) and remind your child to work hard but also have fun!
Each week, I update the Parent Education section on our website with the newest article. Please click here to access it.
