Preparing for the New Year: Journaling

 

With the new year quickly approaching, it’s a good time to reflect on the past year and look forward to goals and aspirations that we have for 2020. A useful tool for swimmers is journaling. This looks different to many people, but journaling can include: recording how a specific practice went feelings of a particular day, or goals and aspirations for the end of the season. There are many prompts that athletes may use, or they may choose to write about different things daily. Many elite athletes keep a journal about what they’ve done well each day, not only in their workouts but in their daily lives too.

 

Here are some journaling prompts to get started:

1. What is (at least) one aspect of practice that you were proud of today?

2. How did you handle adversity today?

3. Write about a great set from the day (in or out of the pool).

4. Write about something you improved on.
