January 12 - 18, 2020
Dear WAC Families,
Thanks to everyone that attended the Candlelight Kick on Tuesday. A special thanks to parents and coaches that stepped up to help setup and serve the food and clean-up. We had over 80 swimmers attend and almost the same number of parents and siblings joining. Happy New Year to everyone!
UPCOMING WAC EVENTS
As the primary means of funding our Booster Activities we co-host the Regional Meet at Worthington February 15-17 , (that includes President’s Day Monday). For a 50% share of the meet profits our responsibilities involve providing hospitality to coaches and officials and filling the many positions required to make a meet run smoothly. The job board will be active soon to allow you to sign up for meet operation positions, while a SignUpGenius link will be provided to cover the hospitality. All parents entering swimmers in this meet will be asked to volunteer both a portion of their time and some food items/drinks to stock the hospitality.
There are two crucial positions to fill at this time are:
1) Volunteer Coordinator – will organize filling of meet operation positions.
2) Hospitality Coordinator – will organize the menu and staffing of the hospitality area.
Each of these are “paid” positions, in that your booster fee and meet fees for Regionals will be waived. If you are interested in one of these positions or want more information, please, feel free to contact me.
The second event that will be here before you know it; the Annual WAC Swimmer Recognition Banquet to be held in March. The coordinator for this event is Heather Dardinger. If you would like to help Heather plan a wonderful event feel free to contact Coach Jim (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Congratulations to our swimmers who competed in the GCST B Meet this weekend on some great performances!
Good luck to those who are participating in the Kelly German meet this weekend. The Psych Sheet was posted to the meet page, and warm up information will be added in the next day or two. An e.mail will go to participants when that info is added.
Due to the Kelly German Meet next weekend, please note that Gold and Silver practices will be affected for Saturday January 18th:
- G1/G2/S1/S2 will be combined at Oakstone from 7:30-9AM .
- B1/B2 will be on normal schedule @ Oakstone 9-10:15AM
- Waves Groups will be on normal schedule @ Oakstone 10:15-11:15AM.
Regionals (February 15-17th) - All Bronze/Silver/Gold athletes age 9-14 (and 8th grade and below) are expected to participate fully in the Regional Championship Meet. If you have not yet signed up through your WAC account, please do so now!
GROUP SPECIFIC NOTES:
Senior/High School - We’re currently two weeks from Conference Championships with a few regular season HS meets to go. Every effort should be made to attend practices even if on the same day as a scheduled meet. Once conference meet weekend gets here, that policy rescinds and the meets take priority. HS Championships are very important to the swimmers, their HS teams and also to WAC. Taper (rest) is vital as we approach the Sectional meet and our focus becomes success at these meets. I distributed “Ideal” worksheets to those at practice on Saturday and will get them to everyone else. Taper/Goal talks will be scheduled as these forms are returned to me.
The “spring like” weather we’re experiencing right now will not last. Soon there will be sub-zero temperatures and knee high snow. These warm temps not only cultivate and exacerbate the flu germs they trick us into not dressing for the season. It’s tempting to wear shorts and sandals when it's comfortably in the high 40’s when coming to practice, however, it’s in the low 30’s when you leave the pool with wet hair wrapped in a wet towel. Dress for the season and not the weather – it’s January – dress like it!
Gold2 - Practice on Saturday 1/18 for those not attending KG will be 7:30-9 @ Oak.
Gold1 - Our January test set will be on Thursday 1/16! We only have a few more chances for our 10x100 set. If your swimmer will not be attending practice on Thursday, please let me know! Don’t forget: practice on Saturday will be 7:30-9am at Oakstone. Please make a note, and plan to attend! --Coach Matt ( email@example.com )
Silver2 - Practice on Saturday 1/18 for those not attending KG will be 7:30-9 @ Oak.
Silver1 - Don’t forget: practice on Saturday will be 7:30-9am at Oakstone.

Bronze1 - Normal schedule this week!
Waves - Normal schedule this week - Tuesday swimmers make sure you let Coach CJ (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if you haven’t arranged for a make-up from last weeks Candlelight Kick schedule change.
