Stingrays News Update - week of 1/14/20

Happy Monday, Stingrays!

This is a rare week in that we do not have a swim meet this coming weekend. But then that’s it, people. We’re heading full force into INDY (Jan. 24-26), then the Saginaw Fab 50s Meet (Feb. 1), and the Championship Season begins as we host the Clusters Championships on February 8-9!

Speaking of Clusters, the Clusters Volunteer Sign-Up is LIVE in the system and can be found HERE. Just like our December meet, each family is expected to sign up for TWO volunteer slots. Please note (like BEFORE you sign up for a volunteer slot at a session that your child is not swimming in...don't say I didn't warn you cheeky) that the meet schedule is DIFFERENT than other meets:

  • Saturday Morning (Day 1, Session 1): 11-12 and 8 & Under Boys
  • Saturday Mid-Day Session (Day 1, Session 2): 11 & Over 400 IM and 9 & Over 500 Free.
  • Saturday Afternoon (Day 1, Session 3): 9-10 and 13-18

  • Sunday Morning (Day 2, Session 4): 11-12  and 8 & Under Girls
  • Sunday MId-Day Session (Day 2, Session 5): 10 & Under 200 IM and 11 & Over 1000
  • Sunday Afternoon (Day 2, Session 6): 9-10 and 13-18

Morning volunteers will cover the morning AND mid-day mid-day sessions (but the length of the volunteer slot isn’t any different…the morning session is shorter than usual.)

If you don’t remember what the volunteer jobs are, please click here.

For those of you on the Meet Planning Committee, our meeting is Tuesday, January 14 at 7:15 pm at North Farmington.

This week in the pool:

Mini Rays and Bronze Group: We will focus on technique for butterfly and freestyle. Bronze group will continue to work on open turns and IM exchange turns; mini rays will work on underwater body dolphins and freestyle flip turns. Both groups will spend some time on starts this week.

Silver Group: We will begin some of its heaviest training of the season this week. Expect lots of technique-based pre-sets, pace work added to our most difficult main sets, and fast skill-based post-sets. Test set is 100’s this week. *Please remember to bring a full water bottle to every practice; this is required equipment.*

Gold Group: We will be working more on breath control this week, specifically with sprinting. They will also continue with race pace work throughout the week

Senior Group: We will have Dryland on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday. We will be working on breakouts for all four strokes and continuing to build strength with under water body dolphins training. Starts, turns and finishes will be a focus towards the end of the week.
