Teaching Tuesday: Learning to Rise, Despite Failure

Learning to Rise, Despite Failure

It is the beginning of 2020, which means it is the start of an Olympic year, a new decade, and a time to make changes in one’s life. A new year is a great time to start fresh with ideas and have a specific intention in all that we do. Though failure should never define a swimmer, it is an obstacle that many athletes must overcome while they are competing. This concept of rising up, despite past failures and loses, is what champions do. It is easy to fall back into an unhealthy pattern or give up quickly once a competition doesn’t go our way, but the most successful people use difficult times to motivate them moving forward. It is so important to stay mentally tough during times that challenge us as athletes and come back from adversity stronger than ever.
