2020 SOUTHERN ZONE OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIPS
ABOUT THE MEET
The 2020 Southern Zone Open Water meet will be in Chattanooga, Tennessee, May 30-31, 2020.
The Southeastern Open Water Zone Team is selected using times from the 2019-2020 Short Course season (September 1, 2019 - March 8, 2020). Swimmers must apply for the team by online application only.
The application process is now open and will close at midnight on Sunday, March 8, 2020. The team will then be posted by Wednesday, March 11. Please see the tab "trip info" for a full description of the trip, including cost.
All applications must be submitted through the attached application. If you have a swimmer attending the SES Short Course Championships or Sectionals, this deadline allows them to swim either or both events at those meet, and the times will be used for consideration.
SELECTION TO THE TEAM
The team will be comprised of the following number of swimmers per age group.
11-12’s 13-14’s 15-16’s Seniors
up to 4 girls & 4 boys up to 4 girls & 4 boys up to 4 girls & 4 boys up to 4 girls & 4 boys
Once the team is selected, if a swimmer selected is unable to attend, the committee will choose the next highest ranked swimmer who has applied.
The 11-12 age group will use top times in the and 1, freestyle. The 13-14’s, 15-16’s, and Senior age groups will use the top swims in the 1, and 1, freestyle events. These swims will be based on the Age Group Power Point System, calculated by Meet Manager. We will accept scores for the two (2) events if each event scores the minimum 650 power points. We will also consider a swimmer who has the minimum point value in one (1) of the events. No swimmer with point values less than 650 in these events will be considered. Swimmers will be ranked (by age group/gender) using the Power Point system.
EX 1: If a old female scores a 720 in the 1, freestyle, but scores a 630 in the 1, freestyle, then the only time that will “score” for consideration on the zone team will be for the 1, freestyle event. Therefore her total points for consideration are 720.
EX 2: If a swimmer who is old scores a 700 in the freestyle and 680 in the 1,000 freestyle, then that swimmer’s combined score will be 1,380 power points, because he scores the minimum required in each event.
