February Schedule Posted
The February practice schedule is posted HERE. Please be aware there are some changes for this month. Friday, February 7th and Saturday, February 8th, practices for Gold, Bullet, and Senior will be cancelled due to the High School State Championships. We are going to try to run practices on those days for Bronze and Silver if possible. We will send something out next week regarding those practices. The DHS maintenance staff has asked us to close the pool for a few days to do some maintenance on the pool. We are closing the DHS pool Monday, February 10th – Wednesday, February 12th. Bronze and Silver groups will not have practices those days. Senior group will not have AM practice Tuesday, February 11th.
We are going to test a new schedule for February. It will affect Gold, Bullet, and Senior Groups the most. Beginning Thursday, February 12th. Gold, Bullet, and Senior groups will swim at DHS on Monday, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. They will swim from 4:15-6:00 PM and then lift weights/dryland from 6-7 PM. Gold, Bullet, and Senior will swim at the REC on Wednesdays and Fridays 4:15-7:00 PM. Bronze and Silver groups will not see any changes to their practice times. The only changes will be the order in which they do dryland and swim. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays Bronze and Silver groups will do dryland from 5:30 – 6:00 PM and swim 6-7 PM. Wednesdays and Fridays will be swim only 5:30-6:30 PM. Saturdays will stay normal for all groups.
Remember this is just a test run. We are trying to find ways to get our High School swimmers home earlier, since they are in the pool three days a week at 5:45 AM. Sleep is very important! We also notice that some of our Bronze and Silver families have trouble getting to practice at 5:30. Dryland is also very important, but we would rather our swimmers get ALL of their water time.
Henry Bethel Ranked Top 100 in the World!
The 18 and under World Rankings were posted last week and Henry Bethel was on it! Henry’s 100 Meter Breaststroke from Summer Junior Nationals ranks him 74th in the world! IN THE WORLD!!! Congratulations Henry! Who’s going to be our next World Ranked swimmer?
Currently, we host two meets per year. Jingle Bell in December and Mako-Mania in March. In addition, every third year we host the CASL Bill Caulkins City Meet Championships. One of our issues hosting meets is having enough officials. There is a minimum required number of officials we must have for our swimmer’s times to count in USA Swimming. We also need officials that are trained as Starters, Meet Referees, and Administrative Officials. We have been bringing in officials from Atlanta and Chattanooga to help, but it is getting more difficult to do so.
We would love to host some smaller meets that directly meet the needs of our swimmers, but we cannot consider doing so, until we begin to build up our ranks of trained officials. Currently, we only have two officials on our team. Most of the training can be done online. The other training can be done at meets you are already attending. We will pay for your certifications. Please look at the information HERE and let Jason know if you have any interest in becoming an official.
Parents on Deck
Periodically, we have to remind parents to stay off of the pool deck during practice. Sometimes parent conversations get too loud and distract swimmers from their coaches and/or tasks. We also ask parents to not communicate with their swimmer(s) from the stands. It distracts everyone. Thank you in advance for your help with this!
