Coach Richard's Pre-Season Message

To All Rio Rapids Families,

Amazing how fast time flies and the 2020 swim season is Rapidly approaching. I am so excited to welcome and encourage all swimmers back to the pool.  I am astonished to be entering my 20th season as the Rapids coach. I Love this team! This season looks to be another great year of Rapids swimming.  The Rio Rapids swim team is filled with fun family activities that will create lifelong friendships and memories for parents and swimmer alike.  I am so happy that the Rapids are bringing back an energetic and experienced coaching staff to work with our wonderful swimmers at Rio del Oro.  I am  excited about our group of coaches, and they are all looking forward to another fast Rapids season. I will be joined this year by Coach Nick in his 13th year as a Rapids coach, and we are excited to welcome back; Coach Sally(4th), Coach Taylor(9th), and Coach Hannah(5th), along with all of our other wonderful Rapids Junior Coaches and we even have some new coaches lined up who will be great additions to our team and we cant wait to tell you more!!  Our first day of practice will be Wednesday April 1, 2020, and our season will conclude with Championships at Summer Sanders Aquatic Center in Roseville during the weekend of July 25 and 26. Meet of Champions the Post-Season All-Star Meet will also be at the RAC the weekend of Aug 1st and 2nd.

Our team website: www.riorapids.com is your place for all your swim team needs. March Clinics sign-ups will also be available to sign up for online on the team website and will begin Monday March 2nd.

This year as always parent involvement is vital to the success of our program.  Sign Up for all of your parent volunteer commitments on the team website www.Riorapids.com. We will be having a parent jobs meeting during Swim Suit Order Day on April 15th  at the club.

The Rio Ripples Learn to Swim School is for any swimmer who is not quite ready for swim team or is not interested in the team, we can still offer a chance to learn to swim in a positive and focused atmosphere.  Rio Ripples Swim School will begin Monday April 6th.

We are excited to announce some fun things coming your way for the 2020 season. First off, we will be starting the Rapids social calendar with the always fun Parent Party hosted at my home on Saturday April 25th.   We are excited to hold our Rio del Oro Kids Night late in July on the 18th. Also, this year, will be bringing back a team favorite Rapids River Raft Day where we can see what our team name ‘Rapids’ are all about!!!

Communication is the key to our success. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  The main avenue for communication this season is the Rapids website and newsletter. Please ensure that all your contact information is correct when you register online. Our team website is also a great resource for information and updates.  Whichever medium you choose you will always be able to stay “in the loop”.

I am looking forward to another fast swim season. This year the Rapids will be swimming in the Gold Rush Conference.  We look forward to another competitive season. Time Trials will be returning to Saturday for our first meet on Saturday May 2nd.  Some highlights of the meet schedule will be our 16th annual Rio del Oro Spring Invitational on Sunday May 17th, which serves as our team’s biggest fundraiser.  Home Meets with West Sac Dolphins (May 30), Woodcreek Seawolves (June 6), Rollingwood Rockets (June 13) Johnson Ranch Barracudas (June 20) and Del Norte Dolphins (July 11). We also will have an away meet with Arden Hills on June 27th.
