WAC Week of February 2 - Feb 8, 2020

February 2nd - February 8th

Dear WAC Families,

Congratulations to all of our WACsters for a job well done this past weekend at the Last Ditch Meet.  It was awesome to see some of our WAVES athletes compete for the first time. The meet saw several new Junior Olympic cuts achieved, countless first-time events competed, and a ton of time drops!  Things are looking good as we head into the Championship Season - our hard work is just starting to pay off.

This week starts our Championship Training Schedule, which has been posted on the website ( https://www.teamunify.com/SubTabGeneric.jsp?team=oswac&_stabid_=203783 ).  A summary is included below with each group’s notes - but please make sure you are double checking the schedule.  Due to the number of meets going on, and the various taper schedules, things get a little hairy. We have tried to keep things as close to ‘normal’ as possible.

Regional Meet at Worthington February 15-17 , (that includes President’s Day Monday). All age group swimmers age 9-14 are expected to attend this championship meet. This is your last chance to get signed up!!

Details on volunteer (time and food items/drinks) were sent out by email to all families who are registered for Regionals.

·       Volunteer Signups – Please sign up for jobs on the Meet Page, all families who are participating in the meet will be assigned jobs  https://www.teamunify.com/EvJobSignup.jsp?team=oswac&event_id=1081484

Group-Specific Notes:

High School/Senior : Jim will be sending out a separate email with taper schedules for you, be on the lookout!

Gold 2 :   Great job this past weekend gang!  You all swam very well and I’m super proud of the improvements you have made over the past few weeks.  We are ready to enter the last phase of our training (it’s not taper time just yet… but you can start dreaming about it!).  Our practice schedule will follow as normal until Saturday - we’ll be 8-10A on Saturday @ JC Pool. You’ll be with Coach Matt as I’ll be at the High School Sectional Meet with Westerville South.  Please make sure you are dressing warmly, getting enough rest, and be conscious of your diet as we enter the end of our season. It’s critical that you all stay healthy in the final weeks of the season - and the flu is here with a vengeance!  ~ Coach CJ

Gold 1 :  Huge congrats to our G1 athletes who swam at Last Ditch this weekend! We had some incredible time drops and our strokes are looking very strong! Shout out to Killian, Lilly, and Tim who crushed their first 400 IM (a daunting event!) and Charlotte who made a last-minute decision to tackle the mile (1650) freestyle for the first time! I am incredibly proud of the work everyone in G1 is putting in, and I am just as excited as the swimmers are to see all that hard work pay off! Way to go!!

We will have practice Monday (yes, even those who swam all weekend)! We will have a long recovery practice, but it is important that we maintain our training schedule as we head into the championship meets and the end of our short course season. We will have our FINAL 10x100 test set of the short course season this Thursday. Please plan on your swimmer attending. During the next two weeks of practices, we are working on being “intentional!” After practices, ask your swimmer what they were intentional about that night- they should have an answer!

Please make note of the schedule changes this week: Tuesday practice is moved to JC 7-9pm, and Saturday practice will be at JC 8-10am (normal schedule on Mon/Thurs). As always, please reach out with questions at any time! -Coach Matt ( mphillips@wacswim.net )

Silver 2 :  Great job this weekend Silver2 Swimmers!  Your practice schedule is a little shifted starting this week - you’ll practice Monday and Tuesday 7-8:30P @ OAKSTONE, Off on Wednesday, and Thursday 7-8:30 P @ OAKSTONE.  Saturday will be 10-11:30 @ JC. If this creates a huge burden for your family to not have Wednesday practice option, please let me know and I'll see what we can work out! Please make sure you are dressing warmly, getting enough rest, and be conscious of your diet as we enter the end of our season.  It’s critical that you all stay healthy in the final weeks of the season - and the flu is here with a vengeance! ~ Coach CJ

Silver 1 :  Congratulations to our S1 swimmers who competed at Last Ditch this weekend! We saw lots of improvements in personal best times and especially in our stroke technique! We are looking strong as we head into our championship season. Your coaches are very proud of the work that you all have been putting in, and we love seeing so many swimmers trying new and challenging events! Congrats to Jack for adding the 50 fly to his growing collection of JO times!

Please make note of the slight changes to the schedule beginning this week: Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday 7-8:30pm @ Oakstone, Saturday 10-11:30am @ JC.   As the WAVES group has changed this month, we are able to offer a 4th practice over the next 2 weeks. The intent is for you to still attend 3 practices per week, now with a choice of 4 options.

Bronze 2 : Congrats to Bronze2 swimmers for taking on some awesome new challenges this past weekend!  I was super proud of how well you all did, especially those of you who tackled 100’s and 200’s for the very first time.  All of our hard work is clearly paying off. Sad news - our happy little group is kind of dividing for the next month. Athletes who are age 9+ will continue to be Bronze 2 and follow the posted Bronze 2 schedule. Athletes who are age 8&under will now switch over to the posted MiniSquad group schedule as they train for the Barbara Kay Mini Meet.  All athletes (including MiniSquad) are invited to come to practice on Saturday. Please let me know if the schedule change creates a hardship for your family as we do have some flexibility to make adjustments if needed. This week Bronze2 will be: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7-8:30P @ OAKSTONE, Saturday 9-10:15A @ OAKSTONE. ~Coach CJ

Bronze 1 : Congrats to our small but mighty group of Bronze1 swimmers for taking on some awesome new races this past weekend! We love seeing our athletes taking on new and exciting challenges! All of our hard work is clearly paying off. Sad news - our happy little group is kind of dividing for the next month.  Athletes who are age 9+ will continue to be Bronze 1 and follow the posted Bronze 1 schedule. Athletes who are age 8&under will now switch over to the MiniSquad group as they train for the Barbara Kay Mini Meet. All athletes (including MiniSquad) are invited to come to practice on Saturday. Bronze 1 swimmers will not see a significant change in schedule, but will meet many new athletes who will be training with them over the next month. We are excited to welcome many SwimAmerica swimmers to the MiniSquad!  -Coach Matt

Waves/MiniSquad Group - Congratulations to our Winter Waves swimmers who competed in the Last Ditch meet this weekend! We saw some great races and lots of great stroke technique! For our older swimmers- enjoy some well-earned time off and we hope to see you back for the Spring sessions in April! Welcome to the many new 8 & under athletes we have joining us for the MiniSquad session. We can’t wait to meet you this week and have lots of fun as we train for the Barbara Kay Mini Meet.  The MiniSquad will train this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6-7PM @ Oakstone Academy Pool. If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach CJ ( CJMorabito@Wacswim.net ).
