Congratulations to all 8& Under Y State Championship Swimmers!

Greenwich YMCA Marlins 8 & Under Swim Team Captures 1st (Girls) and 2nd(Boys) at YMCA State Championships

 

The Greenwich Marlins YMCA Swim team captured 1st (Girls) and 2nd (Boys) at the Connecticut State Championships on Sunday, Feb. 2 in Brookfield, CT.  The Girls kicked off the meet with a first place finish in the 100 Medley Relay. (Elsa Wang, Katherine McMahon, Eliza Harper and Alden Charette).  Eliza (39 points) added gold in the 25 free and bronze in 25 fly;  Alden(36 points) took gold in the 50 back.   Elsa (32 points) took silver in the 50 back and Katherine (23 points) added a silver in the 50 breast.  Our other double digit point scorers were Beatriz Defrietas (22.5), 5th place 25 Back, 6th place 25 fly, and Isabelle Grey (12 points) 5th place 50 back.  Outstanding performances were turned in by Avery Burton (8th place-25 Breast) and Amelia Conrad (12th place 25 fly) who scored their first points in a championship meet

Not to be outdone, the Boys opened their session with a convincing win in the 100 medley relay (Carsten Wang, Grayson Shaw, Dash Keffer and Leon Grunewald). Carsten Wang (45 points) added two individual golds (50 free and 50 back) and a bronze in the 50 fly.  Dash  (42 points)  took gold in the 50 fly and silver in the 50 free and back.  Grayson took bronze in the 50 fly, back and free.  The boys combined to sweep 1st, 2nd and 3rd in those three events.  Aleksi Chulack added 4 points, dropping8.5 seconds in taking 8th in the 25 fly .  Showing the Marliins will have some firepower next year as well, 7 year old Leon Grunewald took 5th in the 25 Breast and 6th in the 25 free. ) , Marrko Kania-Neira swam to a 7th place 25 Back and 11th place 25 Breast (9pts) and Nikko Kania-Neira took 12th place in the 25 free (1pt).  Carsten, Grayson, Leon and Dash finished the meet with yet another gold medal performances in the last event, the 100 free relay, The boys finished the meet with a gold medal performance with Dash touching out his rivals in an exciting finish.
