Dear Inland Empire Members,
Each spring, USA Swimming invites 48 athletes from underrepresented populations to participate in a three-day camp program which includes pool training, motivational and education sessions and team-building activities.
The purpose of the camp is to create an atmosphere of Motivation and Educational opportunities for athletes of underrepresented cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups to develop the necessary Leadership skills to achieve Excellence in their sport and their home communities. The goals are:
Ø To empower athletes from ethnically under-represented populations and their coaches to:
Ø Demonstrate the viability of multicultural success in swimming.
Ø Achieve performance excellence at every level of the sport.
Ø Expound the benefits and value of participating in the sport of swimming.
Ø Assist in recruiting more swimmers and coaches from diverse ethnicities to the sport of swimming.
Ø Be positive leaders and role models that others from multicultural backgrounds can emulate.
The camp will take place June 11-14, 2020. Athletes would arrive on Thursday and depart on Sunday morning. The camp will be hosted at Boise State University in Boise, ID. 48 athletes are selected (24 Boys & 24 Girls). The athlete application is available here and is due March 13, 2020. The application is open to athletes 11-16 years of age as of the first day of the camp and cannot have attended the National Diversity Select Camp or the Zone Select Camps.
