Junior Champs

Great job to the 40 Crocs who traveled to Moses Lake for the Inland Empire Junior Championships last weekend! CAST placed 3rd overall in the team competition. CAST also took home the Spirit Award- for the third Champs meet running! Thanks to all the swimmers and parents for your support all weekend. Below are just a few of the highlights from one of the most fun meets of the year!

3 swimmers earned high point honors for their age groups. Maggie Sobek was a perfect 10 for 10, winning every single event she entered, including anchoring both 8 and under relays. She also made 2 new JO cuts, bringing her total to 3-despite having to make the 9-10 cuts as an 8 year old! Elijah Brown won top honors for the 11-12 boys, wining the 200 IM and placing 2nd or 3rd in 6 of his other events. Elijah blasted his previous best times, making 7 new JO cuts in 8 swims! Jake Sachtjen took home the most points for the 13-14 boys, winning the 100 fly and 200 IM, and placing top 4 in every other race he swam. Jake made 6 JO cuts over the course of the weekend.

3 swimmers made their competitive debut last weekend; 6 year old Adeline Downing continued the family tradition, swimming 4 races and a relay including a super fun 50 backstroke.  JJ Maisch swam 4 races, his most impressive being the sub-2:00 100 breaststroke he swam Saturday morning. Finally, Carson Zook took the plunge in 3 individual races and led off the 6th place 200 medley relay!

One of the primary motivators at Junior Champs is acquiring those “BB” time standards for the Junior Olympics meet in a few weeks, and we had a lot of swimmers meet their goals in this regard. Demi Blaylock could only swim the 500 free, 200 fly, and 100 breast at this meet, but made her JO times and won all 3 races. Keelie Halsted was also 100%, making 5 new JO cuts, and placing and winning the 200 IM, 100 fly, and 50 fly! Paul Janke made a 13-14 BB time in the 200 back where he placed second, and was on the winning 400 medley relay. Ben Linford snagged 3 new BB cuts and placed top 3 in the 100, 200, and 500 freestyles. Nick Patrick won the 100 breast and 50 free, nabbing JO cuts in both races. Tim Vlasov earned 3 new JO times and won the 100 fly, placing top 4 in all his events.

Great job to all our swimmers-there were too many good performances to name them all, and it was a privilege to get to see everyone race in a championship atmosphere.
