Edmonton Open February 7-9

Whitehorse Glacier Bears travelled to Edmonton, Alberta for the “Edmonton Open” event the week of February 5th to 9th 2020. It was a very successful competition for all our swimmers due to the great achievements they all produced, as well as all the new experiences the meet offered to all of us during the weekend.

Athletes who travelled are Hannah Kinsgcote, Mia Barrault, Alexa Manen, Maddy Mead, Elsa Parr, Camilla Hallock, Amelia Ford, Emily Vangel, Brooklyn Masse, Aidan Harvey, Thomas Gishler, Alex Pitrew and Thomas Bakica. Coach attending, Carmen Escobar.

Swimmers got the following results:

88 total swims:

-65 personal best (73% improvement efficiency rate)

-28 finals (we didn’t complete Sunday Finals)

-10 club records (+ we must include the 2 records that were broken at our mini time trial by Thomas Gishler 1500fr and Aidan Harvey 400IM on Tuesday prior to depart to Edmonton)

-6 swims were under the Western National cut by Mia Barrault, Hannah Kingscote and Thomas Gishler

-2 swims were Olympic trial cut by Mia Barrault

-Maddy Mead got another BC provincial cut (400 free)

15-17 girls: Hannah K, 200bk, 2:29.04

13-14 boys (All Thomas Gishler)

100 free: 59.71

200 free: 2:08.09

400 free: 4:29.85

100 fly: 1:07.46

200 fly: 2:28.08

200IM: 2:28.01

15-17 boys:

200IM, Aidan Harvey, 2:26.63

50 back, Aidan Harvey, 30.29

200 breast, Thomas Bakica, 2:42.13

Overall it was a solid performance and a great preparation meet for the top swimmers of this club. WE are now heading towards BC provincials in about 3 more weeks, and we look forward to maintaining this rhythm of training and racing as it has helped our swimmers to be tougher and stronger, mentally and physically.
