Tier 1 meet report
Feb 21-23, 2020
Coach Julia Veidt
The Whitehorse Glacier Bears had two athletes in attendance at Tier 1 BC Provincials, which attracted over 400 swimmers and took place at the Vancouver aquatic centre February 21-23, 2020. Sabine Keesey and Oliver Cull qualified for this event by meeting the provincial qualifying standards in the 200 IM and at least one other event. Kale Massie also met the qualifying standards for this event but was unable to attend.
Both swimmers and managed themselves very well in their first experience at provincial-level competition. Paying attention to warmups, cooldowns, getting food and rest, and keeping a good attitude made the meet a success. Sabine achieved six personal best times, won five heats, took off a combined total of 56 seconds, and lowered her 200 backstroke best time by four seconds to achieve the provincial qualifying time in the next age group up. Oliver had five best times, won two heats, and took off a combined 17 seconds in his races. Both swimmers had a lot of fun representing the Glacier Bears at provincials, and are looking forward to getting back to training hard and working towards their next competition opportunities!
