VSC’s Championship Swimmers
February 27th through March 1st, nine VSC swimmers qualified for and competed at the 11-14 State Championships. We had a great four days of swimming and everyone achieved at least one best time! As a team we placed 12th out 42 teams overall, beating out many larger teams. Once again we live up to the motto, “small but mighty!”
McKelvey B. swam the 100 and 200 butterfly dropping 8.66 seconds overall. This was her first time at state and she did an amazing job holding in all those racing jitters!
Kadyn B. swam the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke, 200 IM, and 400IM dropping 10.86 seconds overall. He had three out of four best times.
Jack H. swam the 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle along with the 200 fly, 200 IM and 400 IM. Jack dropped a total of 66.08 seconds with 4 out of 6 best times! He placed 7th in the mile (1650) and 8th in the 1000. That is a lot of yards in one meet!
Cedric H. swam the 50 and 100 fly, 100 back, 200 and 500 free, and the 200 IM. Although Cedric was sick he dropped 1.69 seconds and placed in every single event. He placed second in 4 events including the 100 back, 200 free, 500 free, and 200 IM. He also placed 3rd in the 100 fly and 4th in the 50 fly.
Aidan J. competed in six events at the state meet, including 500, 1000, and 1650 free, 100 and 200 back, and 400 IM. Aidan raced his way to a state title (1st place) in both the 100 and 200 backstroke. He place second in the 1000 and 1650 free, 4th in the 500 free and 5th in the 400 IM, dropping a total of 30.88 second with 6 of 6 best times.
Camille M. competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 and 400 IM, and the 500 free dropping a total of 26.63 seconds and 4 best times. She qualified for finals in the 200 breaststroke and placed 5th overall. That was some great swimming.
Dylan N. qualified for his first state championships in the 50 fly and 50 backstroke dropping .39 seconds for one best time. It was so much fun watching him race in his first championship meet.
Bailey T. swam the meet of her life qualifying and placing in all six of her events. She swam the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle, 50 fly and 100 fly, and 100 back dropping 20.67 seconds. She placed 2nd in the 100 fly, 3rd in the 50 fly and 200 free, 4th in the 100 back and 500 free, and 7th in the 100 free. That was 11 races in all over three days. WOW!
Taylor T. swam a full schedule of six events at state including 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle, 200 back, 200 breaststroke, and 400 IM dropping an impressive 72.9 seconds. That makes Taylor the BIGGEST LOSER for this meet and she placed 8th in the mile (1650 free) and 7th place in the 1000.
Congratulations to all of our state championship swimmers! VSC is so very proud of each and every one of you. If you run into any of these swimmers give them a high five and a big congratulations!
