Health and Safety

March 10, 2020

Dear Allegheny Mountain LSC Members:

As media coverage of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) increases, and the first confirmed cases in Pennsylvania are identified, it is understandable to have concerns regarding community swimming events. AMS considers the safety of our swimmers, coaches, and families as a top priority. As such, the BOD would like to assure our families that we are monitoring the situation closely and continue to take into consideration the advisories issued from the Allegheny County Health Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We have not received any notices to for our county to date. Counties impacted per the   PA Department of Health include: Delaware, Monroe, Montgomery, and Wayne counties. That list updates daily per the PA Department of Health.

The CDC includes specific guidelines for travel to countries that have been designated with a   Level 3 Travel Health Notice. These travel updates are posted daily. At present, those countries include China, Iran, Italy, and South Korea. Anyone who has traveled to countries with a Level 3 designation is asked to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time they left the area, and to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus. Those who are experiencing symptoms of illness should consult a medical professional immediately. AMS is asking families to review the information carefully if they have traveled to one of these countries. In particular, USA Swimming has a statement on the virus located   here.

Please note the CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel and large group gatherings, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. In addition,

•  Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
•  Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water (20 seconds).
•  Stay home when feeling sick.
•  Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and dispose of tissues in the trash.
•  C ough and sneeze into your shoulder or sleeve.
•  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
•  Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
•  Monitor the CDC's public health communications for the most up-to-date information while traveling.

Please keep in mind that per the Allegheny Health Department guidelines, the general chair has the authority to cancel swimming events for swimmer and family safety in our AMS LSC area and per recommendations of all local authorities.

We are working diligently to retrieve information on both zones and sectional meet regarding COVID-19  as there are (2) different states impacted. When we have more information, we will share this with you as soon as possible. Please stay alert of any updates and communication in the coming days.

Sincerely,

Allegheny Mountain Swimming Board of Directors
