PNS COVID-19 Update #3

March 12, 2020

Postponement on Any New Sanctions for March, 2020

Pacific Northwest Swimming continues to respond to Health Department recommendations as well as the Governor’s Executive Order and plan actions to address the COVID-19 situation within the local USA Swimming community.  The Executive Committee of PNS (in lieu of the entire PNS Board) again met last evening (Mar. 11) to consider next steps considering the developments around the world (shutdown of all business in Italy, bans on travel from Europe, suspension of the NBA season, major outbreaks following a conference in Boston, etc.) as well as the local swimming impact cancellation of Speedo Northwest Sectionals, the Age Group Regionals and the PNS Spring Showdown.  The Governor's Executive Order for King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties is intended as a mitigation strategy - attempting to control and minimize the spread of the COVID-19.  The effort is to help prevent the COVID-19 infection from becoming any more serious than will already occur. These recommendations are meant to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community and reduce the number of people infected.  Pacific Northwest Swimming has determined that it will not approve any request for a meet sanction for any event occurring between today, March 12, 2020 and March 31, 2020, when the Governor's Executive Order currently expires.

The Board has scheduled another meeting for Monday, March 30, 2020 to review the situation at that time and determine appropriate next actions.  Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.  Please stay healthy.  Bob Keller,  General Chair, Pacific Northwest Swimming
