Wisconsin Swimming's Updated Safety Plan Regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Wisconsin Swimming's Updated Safety Plan
Regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19)
March 12, 2020
Wisconsin Swimming Families, Club Representatives & Coaches,
In recognition of the changes in the last 48 hours regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Wisconsin Swimming Board of Directors formed a working group consisting of the General Chair, Administrative Vice Chair, Technical Planning Chair, Operational Risk Chair, Sanctioning Manager, Knight Public Affairs, and an Athlete Representative to monitor this evolving situation. This group met immediately after receiving new information today from the Governor Evers  and USA Swimming  and decided to update Wisconsin Swimming's Coronavirus (COVID-19) safety plan.
As such, we are taking the following immediate steps:
  • All sanctioned and approved competitions held within Wisconsin Swimming are suspended at the present time. The time period for the suspension will be updated on, or before, April 10, 2020;
  • All sanctioned and approved competitions scheduled to take place during period between today and April 10, 2020 will not occur, unless revised guidance is issued;
  • No new sanctions or approvals for competitions in this time period will be granted.
Wisconsin Swimming remains committed to the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, officials, parents, families, and the public at-large, especially in times of uncertainty and rapidly-changing circumstances. Decisions like this are never easy, and we understand that they are incredibly disappointing. However, we must ensure our actions are in congruence with our priorities, and this decision underscores our continued commitment to the health and safety of our community.
It is time for all of us to exercise prevention, not panic. As the situation evolves, it is incumbent upon all of us to remain aware and vigilant of this growing public health threat, to do what we can to prepare and mitigate the spread of this Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Wisconsin Swimming's Board, and its designated working group, will continue to monitor the public health situation on an ongoing basis and update our guidelines as appropriate.
Yours in Swimming, Van
