AquaKids SHARKS Parents and Swimmers:
As our hearts and prayers go out to people who have been affected by this unprecedented world-wide event, please know that we are constantly monitoring the COVID-19 situation and are ready to act in the best interest of our athletes and parents.
Effective Monday, March 16th, Westminster Christian School and AquaKids are suspending all practices and lessons at our WCS home pool until Sunday, March 29th! We will be monitoring the situation going forward and a decision will be made and you will be notified concerning the resumption of practices and lessons at WCS on Monday, March 30th!
We are planning for make-up lessons for the balance of March lessons for our Continuing Education (“CE”) groups (Angel, Leopard, and Sand SHARKS - Coaches Sara, Louann, Kevin and Noah) once we return to the pool.
We are also looking at different practice options that may be available for all our other (Bull, Blue, Dusky, Hammerhead, Mako, Great White and Whale/Basking SHARKS groups - Coaches Hannah, Danny, Noah, Issy and Lou). In the meantime, there will be normal/regular practice schedule today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday, March 14th). We will notify you of our plans going forward as soon as a decision is made.
While COVID-19 is having a large effect on all our lives, answers are emerging as to whether or not the virus will spread through pools. According to the official statement by the Center for Disease Control, there is no evidence that the virus spreads to humans through a pool. As long as pool is properly maintained and disinfected through the use of chlorine, the virus should be removed or inactivated. There has also been no detection of the virus in drinking water, as filtration removes or deactivates the virus. We are keeping our Westminster Christian School pool chlorine level higher than is required and testing the chemical levels 6 times or more daily (above what is required by the Board of Health).
We trust every family is following the suggested protocols for proactively protecting themselves and monitoring for the virus and pray for the BEST possible outcome for each and every one of our athletes and their families.
