TYDE PRACTICES SUSPENDED UNTIL APRIL 6

TYDE Families,

In our continuing focus to keep the health and safety of our swimmers a priority, we will be following the YMCA guidelines recently shared with YMCA of Northwest NC members and stated below.  This will apply for TYDE practice groups at all sites.  TYDE will suspend all practices and meets from now until April 6th.

Because TYDE account billing occurs on the 15th of each month, we will not be able to stop billing for the month of March.  However, all active TYDE Swimmer accounts will not be billed for the month of April when we get back into the water.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as this is a new process for us all.  Please look for updates via email and social media as we keep you updated about TYDE Team plans.

YMCA Update as of 3/13/20:

To all of our YMCA of Northwest North Carolina members,

We’d like to first thank you all for taking the necessary steps and procedures to help us keep our YMCA branches and community healthy and safe.

As more news and updates come in about COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, we continue to evaluate our facilities and programming to make the best health decisions for our members, staff, volunteers, and community as a whole.

As many of you saw, Gov. Roy Cooper announced yesterday several guidelines for North Carolinians to help minimize the impact of the Coronavirus. Other localities, including Winston-Salem, in our association have made similar recommendations.

We have categorized our offerings into four areas in which we serve: programs, school day extension/youth educational programs, member services and special events. Starting Monday, March 16, the following changes will take effect in each of these areas:

Programs

Postponed

  • Youth Sports practices and games until April 6
  • TYDE Swim Team practices and meets until April 6
  • Community Integrated Health programs (such as LIVE STRONG® at the YMCA, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, and Moving for Better Balance) until further notice
  • Swim Lessons from March 16 until April 6

Still Currently Scheduled

  • Summer Exploration Academies/Day Camps
  • Residential Summer Camp

School Day Extensions/Youth Educational Programs

Our Before and After School programs will continue to operate in our schools and branches as long as schools are open. If a school system closes in a county, then the programs in that county will not operate until further notice. In-branch preschool, Saturday Academies, and Achievers Saturday programs will also fall into this category.

Postponed

  • Achievers college tours and in-school meetings until April 6

Member Services

  • Senior pot luck events are postponed
  • Child Watch will operate as normal until further notice
  • Some group exercise classes will reduce in size, or move to other parts of the building or outside to allow for more spacing between people

Please follow your home branch’s Facebook and Instagram pages for specific updates and changes to group exercise classes.

Special Events

In keeping with Gov. Roy Cooper’s guideline for keeping crowds at public gatherings to no more than 100 people, the following events at our branches have been postponed or canceled:

  • Kernersville Family YMCA’s Spring Fling has been canceled
  • Branch Easter Egg Hunts are canceled
  • All Healthy Kids Day activities are postponed
  • Association Annual Meeting on April 28 is still scheduled at this time
  • Community Prayer Breakfast on May 5 is still scheduled at this time

Be sure to follow your branch’s Facebook and Instagram pages for specific branch event information on postponement or cancellation.

And finally, while the Centers for Disease Control does say that pools and whirlpools are considered safe — as long as they are properly maintained and cleaned — we ask members to use their own judgment at this time.

We thank you for your understanding, patience, and trust during this time of uncertainty. Just as our members are an important part of our family, so are our staff and we are taking their safety just as seriously by reducing meetings, gatherings, trainings, and events. We will continue to communicate with you frequently, and please know that our decisions to adjust Y programs and services are never made in haste.

*And don’t forget to wipe down your equipment before and after usage!

We encourage everyone — members, staff, the community, and myself included — to follow the three C’s:

COVER: Cough into the crook of your elbow or into a tissue that is immediately thrown away.

CLEAN: Frequently wash/disinfect your hands and wipe down fitness equipment.

CONTAIN: Stay home when you are sick and limit touching your face.
