An important update from Coach Bennetts! Please read!
Good morning Stingray Nation!
Well after several days of uncertainty, it has become clear that we not be conducting face-to-face normal practice schedules for some time. I will be providing weekly workouts and weekly dryland workouts ( click here!!!) for the swimmers to do. In addition there are some great workouts on the my swim pro app on your phone. I am taking part in an on-line coaching meeting today that will allow coaches to compare dryland ideas, workouts, etc that are geared more for swimmers. I will be sending those out as the days go by.
My suggestion would be to get some simple dryland equipment (stretch cord, medicine ball, etc) and do your best to stay in shape. Working out from home is not the most ideal situation, but it can be done effectively if you use your imagination and have fun with it. It may be something like taking a video of yourself doing a tough dryland set at home. Then go ahead and send it to your Stingray teammates and friends and challenge them to get the workout done. Share what you are doing. The more ideas and fun workouts we can come up with the better! I will continue to send swimming and dryland workouts out every Sunday to all of you.
I can not begin to tell all of you how much I feel for you. To have the rug pulled out from under us just as we were heading into our championship season is a tough thing to wrap your head around. To my Stingray Seniors - your swimming career will never be defined by one meet. What you have done over the course of your time on this team has been nothing short of amazing. The impact you all leave on FFYS will be felt for years to come. You will get through this. Lean on your Stingray family and talk to the people who love you. It's going to be OK.
I will be following our FFYS Instagram account and I expect to see some fun, interesting and unique workouts to get Stingray Nation through the next few weeks! Tag someone after you finish your workout and challenge them to stay Stingray Strong!
As I look outside this morning, the sun is out. Days will get brighter. Things will improve. We will be OK. From the bottom of my heart, I love my YMCA family. We are stronger together so stay in touch with each other. The day will come soon and we will be together in the pool again.
