Hello GOAL families,
We hope everyone is staying healthy and enjoying some good family time together. The events of this past week have been unsettling to say the least. GOAL's normal practice pools have been shutting down this week (CSM, UNO, Burke), culminating with this afternoon's decision by the City of Omaha to close their Community Centers (Montclair & Mockingbird). Because we do not have the practice pools necessary to keep our practice schedule going, we will be canceling GOAL's practices for the week of March 16. GOAL's Spring Break week is still scheduled for the week of March 23. We will be notifying everyone as soon as we have definite information regarding resuming practices on March 30. Based on the recommendations of our health officials, we are hoping that this action will help mitigate the spread of this virus in our region.
We know that the kids need to keep up their strength and physical fitness during this slightly extended Spring break.
The GOAL coaches will be e-mailing out group-specific dryland exercise routines on a daily basis starting tomorrow (Mon. Mar. 16), probably by Noon or early-afternoon, and then daily by 8 AM for the rest of the week.
For those who have access to a pool, they can e-mail Coach Tom (email@example.com sharks and senior-levels) and Coach Becky (firstname.lastname@example.org penguins & dolphins) for a swim practice to do that day.
Also, believing strongly that becoming students of the sport is one of the best ways to increase your swim potential, GOAL coaches may also be forwarding videos and resources to keep the "swimming IQ" increasing.
We do have a small number of GOAL swimmers who are within close striking distance of Olympic Trials cuts. We are looking into to plans to let them practice on a limited basis in very small groups if a pool is available. I will be in contact with those involved if something can be set up.

The coaching staff will be in touch with individual groups regarding dryland routines and swim educational resources. The break will begin on Monday March 16th and go through Sunday March 29th at this point. We will keep everyone updated as soon as we know about the start of our spring/summer practice schedule.
