COVID-19 Update 3

The following is an excerpt from an email sent to the MHSL Parent Delegates yesterday. In the interest of quick, transparent discimination of information, we decided to post it online. - The MHSL Board

As you know, we are living in a unique time. COVID-19 is impacting many aspects of our personal and business lives, including your swim team and the Mountain Hi Swim League. As governments begin easing stay-at-home orders and re-opening businesses and communities, we want to share our preliminary plans. The Board has amended our calendar and moved practice and meets back 2 weeks, allowing practice to start on Monday June 1 and the first swim meet to occur on Saturday June 13. We made this decision, and will continue to make our decisions, based on current information and guidelines from health and governmental authorities as well as Colorado and USA Swimming. In addition, we used our Policies and Procedures as a guide.

Section 2 of our Policies and Procedures is our Child Protection Policy. This policy states that the goal for swimmers who participate and compete on a member swim team within the MHSL is to provide each swimmer the opportunity to competitively swim in a safe and controlled environment. It also states that we have a responsibility for the welfare of children and young people who take part in our sport.

We remain optimistic that a season will occur and are hopeful that we will be able to be a rallying point for our communities by holding the long standing Colorado tradition of swim meets this summer. We will continue to evaluate any further direction from government and community officials as well as Colorado and USA Swimming. This will include implementation of possible social distancing recommendations for conducting safe practices and meets.

The one constant in this global pandemic is how quickly things evolve. Determining the best way to return to normalcy and the league season is complex and we know there will be questions along the way. While we wonýt have all the answers up front, we are committed to sharing information as we have it.

[Omitted: Procedural notes]

Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these decisions.

Thank you
