MAKOS STRIVE FOR 55!!
For 55 years the Makos Aquatics Club of Gainesville has been serving our local community through our swim lessons, novice swim teams and our USA Swimming Program. As a non-profit organization our goals have always been to not only provide the best coaching possible to our members, but also provide opportunities to those who would not otherwise be able to participate due to financial restrictions.
This year our club is faced with the challenge of losing at least one, possibly two of our biggest fundraisers that not only support our program (staff salaries, pool rentals, equipment purchases), but also help to provide scholarship funds to our members. Our annual swim-a-thon that normally would take place in April has been canceled. This fundraiser alone brought in over $4,000.00 for our club last year. There is also the possibility, though not official, we will not be able to host the Sunshine State Games swim meet as well in June. This meet brings in over $6,000.00 to our program every year.
In addition to these fundraisers, our summer lesson and novice swim program that traditionally serves over 200 new swimmers every summer has be affected by the recent events. Though we are still going to strive to have this program, even if it is delayed, our number of participants will most likely be greatly reduced.
With that being said, we our asking for your help in raising our goal of $5500.00 If you are able to suppport our club, even in the smallest amount we will appreciate your help in our goal of continuing to serve the greater Gainesville community.
Please share this with your friends and family and encourage them to help our program.
