News From Sparetime
Dear Member,

We are pleased to report that the Placer County Department of Health Services has determined that the governor's latest Executive Public Health Order modifies the "shelter in place" requirement to allow certain recreational activities such as tennis and pickleball at the club. Based on this order, we will be reopening the club on a limited basis for access to our tennis courts and pickleball courts only effective Friday, May 8.

We are excited to start the process of reopening the club. With this phased reopening, the conditions for accessing and using the club will initially be more restrictive than normal for the protection of our members and employees. Details relating to use of the club during this initial phase are outlined below. Some changes in our offerings and procedures should be expected as the guidance from the public health professionals will likely evolve and change over time. We apologize for the length of this email, but there is a considerable amount of detail to provide.

  • Hours of operation will initially be 7:00 am - 8:00 pm on Monday through Friday and 7:00 am - 6:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Tennis and pickleball courts should be reserved in advance through our online court reservation system accessible on the Spare Time mobile app or club website. Members may begin making online reservations on Wednesday, May 6 for court use on May 8.  Reservations may also be made by calling the club during operating hours beginning on May 8.
  • Members are required to check in at the Member Services desk upon arrival before accessing the courts.
  • Access will be limited to members only. Guests will not be permitted at the club at this time.
  • Members should only play on their assigned court even if other courts are open when they arrive at the courts.
  • Placer County Public Health is limiting play to singles only at this time. We will have USTA guidelines on maintaining distancing during play posted at the club for members' use.
  • Tennis pros will be available to teach private and semi-private lessons.
  • The following safety precautions have been established based on public health guidelines:
    • At check in, members will be asked to confirm that they, and other people in their household, are not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 and that, to the best of their knowledge, none have been exposed to the Coronavirus. If you are sick or experiencing any of the known symptoms, please do not come to the club!
    • Safety masks are recommended for members when arriving at the club or interacting with other members and club employees. Masks are optional for on-court tennis and pickleball activities.
    • Access will be limited to members playing under the court reservation. No spectators will be allowed, except for a parent of a junior member.  In such cases, the parent should sit at the court on which their child is playing.
    • To limit the number of people at the club, members are asked to arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before their court reservation time. Members should depart the club when done playing. Members will not be permitted to lounge at the club before or after playing.
    • Players must practice physical distancing - maintaining a minimum distance of 6 feet from other players - at all times.
    • Members are asked to pick up tennis balls, towels and any personal belongings before leaving the court so the court is clear for the next members.
    • We encourage members to wash their hands with soap and water often.  Hand sanitizer will be provided at the club. We recommend that players sanitize their hands before and after playing and avoid touching their faces.

  • Maintenance staff will be walking the courts to wipe down benches, gate latches and other surfaces throughout the day. They will make all efforts to minimize disruption, but please be understanding if they briefly interrupt play.
  • Restrooms will be available for member use.  However, the locker rooms will not be available. The lockers, showers, steam rooms and saunas will be closed and not accessible.
  • Members should bring their own towel and water jugs from home for use on the courts. The club will not have towels or ice machines available for members at this time.

As previously communicated, we have not been charging membership dues while the club has been temporarily closed. We will begin charging dues for members who access the club for tennis and pickleball. While our services will be limited initially, the cost of operating the club on this basis - on a limited scale and with the significant additional safety precautions and procedures that we will following - will be very high. In recognition of this and to support the club's initial reopening, we have established the following two options for membership dues during the month of May only:

  • Regular dues/unlimited visits - you will be billed pro-rated dues for the period from May 8 - 31 based on your regular dues rate and will have unlimited access to the tennis and pickleball courts, subject to court availability and reservation policies.
  • Half dues/limited visits - you will be billed one half of your regular dues rate for May and you will have a limited number of visits for the month based on your membership type (up to 4 visits for single members; 6 visits for couple memberships; 8 visits for family memberships).

To reactivate your membership and to limit the paperwork that needs to be completed at the club, please send an email with the following information to memberservice@sparetimesportsclubs.com prior to your first visit to the club:

  • Your name
  • Your membership number (from the back of your membership card)
  • Your home club
  • Your selected membership/dues option - regular dues/unlimited visits or half dues/limited visits

A form will also be available at the club to provide this information. We will charge your membership account for the applicable dues for May. Members who do not reactivate their membership for tennis or pickleball at this time will continue on a "$0 fee" freeze status.

We are hopeful that the public health order will be further relaxed in the near future to allow other programs and services as well.

Please note that the membership dues credit for the 14 days of March that the club was closed will be applied to all member accounts in the first full month that the club is able to reopen for business with more programs and services. We are hopeful that will be in June, but it will depend when public health orders are lifted or further relaxed.

We look forward to having activity at the clubs again starting Friday. It has been a long, difficult stretch for everyone, and it will be nice to see members out enjoying some tennis and pickleball. Hopefully, it won't be long before other programs and activities can resume as well!
