PNS Program Operations Slow Road of "Return to the Pool"

Pacific Northwest Swimming Teams:

As we embark down the slow road of “Return to the Pool”, Technical Planning would like to share with you some information about swimming competitions for the remainder of the Summer Season.

  1. B Series:  “B” Series Long Course meets are canceled as there is no way to equitably assign swimmers.  Should hosts like to continue to offer something those weekends, they can do so provided they meet Public Health and Governmental guidelines/restrictions. However, keep in mind based on the likelihood of the return to the pool being mid to late June, the chances of full- scale meets happening in June are slim to none.

  1. ALL Other Non-Championship Meets: All Other meets on the schedule for the summer are up to the host should they choose to continue to host something. However, keep in mind based on the likelihood of the return to the pool being mid to late June, the chances of full- scale meets happening in June/early July are slim to none.  Hosts are NOT locked into any already submitted formats.  There will be no penalty should a host choose to cancel.  Meets must meet Public Health and Governmental guidelines/restrictions. Please submit these meet bids at least two weeks in advance so they can be sanctioned in time. Sanctioning requests will not be accepted until the governor has opened swimming pools.

  1. Special Meet Weekends through September  30th: Once we “return to the pool”, all weekends will be designated Special meet weekends through September 30th so teams can put together dual meets/tri-meets/intersquads/ or other types of meets provided that they meet Public Health and Governmental guidelines/restrictions. Please submit these meet bids at least two weeks in advance so they can be sanctioned in time. Sanctioning requests will not be accepted until the governor has opened swimming pools.

  1. LONG COURSE Champs: Due to the lack of qualifying opportunities, we will not be running the 14 & Under Long Course Championships or the Senior Long Course Championships at the end of July.   Instead, we are tentatively planning to offer a “Swim Festival”, pending facility availability and public health and Governmental guidelines. This Festival would target different age groups at the pool together yet limit group size.   This Festival may include training sessions, swim clinic, guest speakers, sanctioned time trials, etc.   If you are interested in being on the planning committee, please reach out to programops@pns.org.

Thank you so much for your flexibility and patience as we work through what to do moving forward.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Suzanne Rychlik
