YKPBSC Head Coach Update and Fundraising Opportunity

Good Evening Polar Bear families. I hope that you are all keeping healthy and strong in both mind and body. I know my family was sure glad to see the sun come out and make itself known in the last week. As much as we enjoy winter sports, it was not without some enthusiasm, that the hockey sticks and skis were traded in for bicycles and ball gloves. Unfortunately, it still looks like it could be some weeks before we can go swimming in the lakes, but maybe that is nature's way of building up the anticipation so that we can be brave enough to jump in when the ice goes!!

As you know, things are still very up in the air with regards to gathering together as a group. Like you, I am hoping that restrictions will ease up over the coming months and we might find a way to gather to mark the end of the season with our traditional BBQ Potluck, AGM and Prize-Giving. We will have to keep our fingers crossed as we continue to adjust to the impact of COVID-19.
We do have some good news in that the City of Yellowknife and RIMP staff have been proactive and have used this downtime to conduct annual maintenance which means that we will be able to begin our next season earlier than normal, if restrictions are lifted. Of course, it is difficult to make definitive plans at this time but I am hopeful that this means our swimmers will have the opportunity to return to their element at around the same time that school starts up!!
Finally we have an opportunity to get together for a Spring Clean-Up. This is a fundraising opportunity which is a way to give back to our community. Many hands make light work. We have done this job in the past and I see it as an opportunity see our teammates and coaches. We are cleaning up two areas in the Grace Lakes area. I am aiming for the 6-8:00pm 19th of May for Sharks and below and 20th May for Cubs and above. Please reply to me via email (my3girls.labrador@gmail.com) if you are interested in participating as we have to comply with physical distancing requirements.
Finally, remember to get out and stay active but please abide by the Chief Public Health Officer's directives so that we keep each other healthy. I am missing more than the smell of chlorine, I miss all your smiling faces.
