Letter to membership with update on pool closures

Dear Neptune families,

The past 2 months have been extremely difficult and stressful with the disruption to everyday life as we know it.  It’s been great to see people bond together, strengthen the fabric of our community, spend quality time with family while truly learning what in life is valuable.  I think we all agree that swimming & our Neptune family is something we cherish and miss dearly.

The news that surfaced early this week that stated “City of Santa Rosa has suspended all activities at Ridgway for the foreseeable future” shocked many.  I’m writing to tell you that Neptune Swimming is not included in that forecast.  I am working with city staff trying to formulate plans that allow us access to the pool while maintaining social distancing and keeping everyone safe and healthy.  I can tell you with 100% certainty, the practice schedules and pool availability will not look anything close to the same as what it was.  We will have to limit the number of kids in the pool, kids on the deck, locker rooms will be off limits, no parents watching in the stands, any sign of sickness means stay home (no exceptions), and many other changes to the operation of the team and the facility. When we start to finalize plans and things become more clear to me, I will communicate these plans with all of you.

As for the SRJC facilities, I do not anticipate it becoming available for Neptune use anytime soon. If anything on this front changes, I will let you know.

We appreciate the continued support from our membership and from the city of Santa Rosa Park & Recreation department.  It means the world to me and to our staff that people love swimming as much as we do.  I hope this news brings some joy and some hope for the future.
