May 8, 2020
First, We would like to thank all of you for your continued support of our program. We do have some new information to share with all of you.
The GRPA athletic committee met today and decided to cancel the district meet and the state championships.
Last night, the Chattanooga Area Swim League had a special meeting and we decided to cancel all dual meets and the City Meet for the 2020 season. We will meet again later this month to decide how we will honor our graduating seniors. There is a proposal on the table to let our graduating seniors come back and swim next summer. We will give you an update after our next meeting.
We did not see a way we were going to be able to responsibly run or attend swim meets this summer, so our focus has been on how we will return to practices in a safe manner. We do intend resume with in-water practices, but we still do not have a firm start date. We have put together some plans based on guidance from USA Swimming, CDC, OSHA, and any other credible resources available to us. We will share those plans after meeting with the DRPD. They are still putting their plans together and we need to make sure we are on the same page. We will meet with members of the DRPD on Monday to discuss how we are planning to safely return to practice. DRPD’s last update said the facilities would be closed until May 13. That does not mean we will start practicing on the 13th. We still aren’t sure that is when the DRPD facilities will reopen. We will make a decision on the start date as we look at the most current data and recommendations.
In the meantime, we will continue with our online dryland sessions. We have been so proud of the way our athletes have handled this unfortunate situation. We have had nothing but great attitudes and hard work in every session! We cannot wait to see what everyone does when we are able to get back in the water!
Again, we want to thank all of you for your patience and support.
