Good morning Breakers families,

Being out of the water for the past 8 weeks with more to come is a troubling proposition for everyone involved.

As we look forward to the month of June, it is my sincere hope that we will be able to get back to the pool in some way to begin training once again. There is a lot that we have all had to get used to. Going to school on-line, not seeing our friends, and the general uneasy feeling of not knowing what comes next. It’s been hard. Once we are able to come back, things will be different. Practice procedures, structures, times, sets, etc. will be different. Your ability to adapt will be tested.

Please know that I have been working everyday doing something to move the puck forward.  I have been in contact with all of our coaches (a lot of them are working even harder during this time at their daytime jobs) and diligently trying to find out information on” what a swim practice will look like” once we are able to get together again. Daily researching and communicating with other coaches on ideas for training and implementing safe and effective practice procedures for everyone is all part of the process.

The day will come when we are able to gather once again on the pool deck for swim practice. No matter how it looks, the important thing is that we will be back. Please stay strong, reach out to your fellow Breakers to stay in touch and help each other through this crazy time. Check your email for the log in information for the zoom meetings for your particular training group. We will try to gather each group in some way, shape or form.  Once I know something regarding the YMCA’s reopening plan and where the Breakers fits into that scenario; I will reach out again.

Within the week, I would like to send out a little survey to figure out who would return to swim this summer or even in the fall (with strict guidelines, protocols etc… set into place).  This would be just a general gathering of info for me.

Next week I will set up a town hall meeting on Thursday May 21 at 6:30 p.m. to give you a personal update, check in and field any questions you may have. I will send the link next Monday.  This is for only current Breakers families who swam this year. It will have a password attached to it.

Most importantly, stay active! Working out every day helps keep the mind, body & spirit sharp and engaged. Feel free to share your workouts with your teammates on social media and remember that our time will come soon, so let’s make sure we are ready to get back in the pool.

We are all in this together. We will all get through this together.

Attached here is also USA Swimming reopening guidelines and what it will take to make sure we all stay safe.  The YMCA’s in MI and the Great Lakes area have banded a coalition to address the reopening as well.
