Team update for 5/19/2020
Greetings team! We are getting excited about getting back in the water! Hopefully things will move to phase 2 very soon, and with that means fitness center reopenings (hopefully)! Our anticipated start date at the moment is June 1. This of course, is subject to change, based on the governor's recommendations. As we know more, I will be sending out updates, so please check your email regularly.
Other important information:
* Safety procedures: As of now, it is my understanding that the Y will be requiring swimmers to be dropped off at the main entry, wear a face covering, and have their temperature taken before proceeding directly to the pool area. If your children do not already have face coverings, please work on getting them one. The Y is hosting a virtual run (more info below) and you can get a mask for participating or by donating $10 to the event. Bandanas are appropriate face coverings as well. Face masks can be removed once on deck. Swimmers will have assigned practice times and lanes. They will need to come in their suit with only a towel, cap and goggles and slip on shoes (no clothes mesh bags or swim bags at this time). Locker rooms will not be accessable except for showering before pool entry and for restroom emergencies. Please have your swimmer use the restroom before coming to practice. Post-practice, swimmers will exit through the handicap door to their parent's car (similar to school pick up procedure). A coach will supervise them to the car, so please be on time for pick-up. If you have any questions about the procedure, feel free to reach out. More on this in the next update.
* Safe sport training: On our website, you will notice a new button labeled "safe sport". On this page you will find safe sport training for minors ages 12-18 and athlete protection training that is required for swimmers and coaches ages 18 and older. Nickie Snyder has also been sending out information on training via email. I am requesting that all swimmers ages 12 and older complete this training before returning to practice. Once your swimmer has completed the course, please send me an email to let me know and I will confirm with our safe sport contact. Please get this done in the next week if possible, so your swimmer is ready to go when practices resume.
* Scheduling- While I have a couple of tentative schedule models, scheduling cannot be confirmed at this time. Once we have confirmation of re-opening, I will send out a schedule as soon as possible. Please be aware that due to social distancing restrictions, we will be required to have less swimmers in the pool at a time. While we have ample pool time throughout the day, when we start back, practices will be shorter and less frequent that you were familiar with in order to meet these requirements. While this may feel disappointing, I think this is a great way to get the kids back progressively, and will help prevent injury. Rest assured that as restrictions lift, we will be able to progressively increase time in the water. Teams all over the country are following this same model.
* YMCA virtual Memorial Day race- The Y is hosting a virtual Memorial day weekend race this coming weekend. If you are ready to get out and run or bike, this is a great cause to support! Please sign up at the link below. Swimmers who particpate will receive a free Y branded mask.
I hope everyone has a great week! I will update more as we get closer to reopening!
