Swim Club Merger opportunity between Sherwood Park and Silver Tide swim clubs

Dear Sherwood Park Swim Club Families,

We hope this email finds everyone safe and well. In the time since the swimming season was suspended the board has been meeting regularly to assess the current situation, while also turning our attention to next season and what that ultimately may look like. With that said we would like to notify members about some recent developments pertaining to the future direction of the club which will be discussed at the AGM on June 8, 2020.

Over the course of the last few months members from both the Sherwood Park Swim Club and Silver Tide Swim Club have been meeting and exploring various collaborative opportunities. These meetings have proven to be extremely positive and it is with great excitement we would like to inform you that the 2 clubs have agreed to begin the process of merging and launching a new club to begin next season. The new club will be known as the Strathcona County Swim Club Silver Rays. The plan has the unanimous support of both clubs’ Board of Directors, Strathcona County and Swim Alberta. This plan will require the support membership to change our club name, so we felt it was important to provide advanced notice prior to the upcoming AGM.

We are aware that there may be many questions, so we have put in place a couple of resources to help answer some of these questions prior to the AGM. A list of FAQs has been posted to each club's website and each club will host a virtual Q&A session prior to the AGM. We will provide more information regarding this in the coming days. We intend to have a defined plan including bylaws, mission statement and fee structure in place by the AGM. The club’s current boards are working collaboratively to ensure that these activities are completed in an expeditious manner. Once the plan is approved there are many key activities that will need to be decided on in very short order by the new club’s board of directors, most importantly the selection of the new club’s head coach.

The coming together of the clubs presents an incredible opportunity to build the sport of swimming in our community and give all of our swimmers the best possible environment to enjoy the sport they love. It also comes with the benefits of improving club efficiencies and keeping fees as low as possible.

We look forward to continuing this conversation over the next few weeks and please feel free to contact any of the board members with any questions or concerns.
