SCAT Return to Practice Policies, Pricing, Protocols, Scheduling & Registration

We have received word from Kedron Aquatic Center the pool will have a limited reopen on June 1st.  This is extraordinary news, and we are working closely with Kedron as we have laid out how SCAT will safely, and in phases, return to team practices.

  1. How SCAT will return to the pool – Phase 1, Phase 2
  2. Safety precautions and Social Distancing
  3. Scheduling
  4. Pricing and Registration

  • All team members will be required to register again online on Wednesday, May 27th.  Registrations will be counted on a first come first serve basis.
  • Team size will be limited initially.
  • Monthly prices for June and July will remain the same with the exception of Senior swimmers.  All Senior, Nat Dev and National team members will be charged the same price  ($298) for the months of June & July.

Once all registrations are received, Coach Jamey will assess the numbers of swimmers hoping to return and will assign swimmers to appropriate practice slots.  This will enable him to know how many coaches he may be able to hire.   We will contact all new team members by Friday, May 29th and post the schedule that will begin Monday, June 1st.

SAFETY (in the Pool)

In accordance with current state/local requirements, USA Swimming guidelines, and with the help of numerous healthcare professionals, our staff has established an initial schedule and safety expectations for our return to the pool. We have been encouraged by epidemiologists to take a conservative approach to resuming swimming activities.

We also understand that not all families currently feel comfortable returning to swim practice. While your participation is welcome, we understand and support any decisions to postpone your return to the water. Each family should do what they feel in their best interest.

We envision this to be a multi-phase process as we introduce our members back to the pool. The plan we are sharing today will be Phase 1 of our reentry procedures. We will not put a timeline on when we will proceed to Phase 2. Instead, we will evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Phase 1 accordingly and use this information to develop Phase 2.

Our initial plans for a return to the water will include limited swimming with ample time between groups to ensure adequate cleaning of all surfaces.  We will begin with two swimmers per lane to start.  We have chosen this strategy for multiple reasons. We want to keep total facility usage low as we all learn how best to manage operations where social distancing is critical. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Our goal to move to phase 2 (where we can introduce more swimming and dryland) would come after we know that we can do this safely for all staff, swimmers, and parents.

Our plan to reintroduce athletes to the water depends on everyone’s (athletes, parents, and staff) cooperation and adherence to safety protocols. We expect everyone in the SCAT family to practice social distancing both at and away from the pool. By doing this, it shows you respect your teammates, their families, and SCAT and Kedron staff. Should we feel anyone is consistently not adhering to social distancing guidelines, they or their family’s participation in SCAT activities may be suspended. Our staff also reserves the right to discontinue practices at any time should they feel safety expectations are not being met.

REGISTRATION

Athletes will remain in the training group they were in prior to the suspension of practices in March. The coaches will address group promotion at the appropriate time. In our professional opinion, we feel it is currently most important for the athletes to have familiarity with their group and surroundings. Introductions to new groups will only create unneeded stress, and we will deal with group promotions in time.

To be eligible to begin on June 1st, we will need the following from you:

YOU MUST REGISTER ONCE AGAIN IN TEAM UNIFY.  There will not be a registration fee, but by registering again, you will sign waivers that you have read the above policies and that you are committing to being part of the team going into the fall.

YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL USA SWIMMING SAFE SPORT PROTOCOLS.  This includes parents and swimmers.  In the fall, all swimmers completed this as a group, but going forward, USA Swimming has expanded this to parents also.  For your swimmer to be eligible to participate in practices, these online classes MUST be completed.  The deadline for completion will be June 5th.  Once you have registered you will receive instructions for the online course to be completed.

  • Fees – Pricing for June & July will remain the same with the exception for Senior and National.  Billing will resume June 1st.
  • Our “new” season will begin in August, but we will not take our normal 3-week break.
  • Fees for our next season will most likely change due to social distancing requirements and an increased coach to swimmer ratio.
  • Registration will be based on a 1st come, 1st serve basis and will be contingent on completing SAFE SPORT requirements.  We need to know our numbers as soon as possible as we will have to rehire our coaches, depending on this registration.

By registering on Wednesday, you are continuing your membership from the 2019-20 season AND telling us that you plan to stay with SCAT into our next fiscal year starting in August.  Pricing for June & July will remain the same with the exception of Senior swimmers.  All Senior, Nat Dev and National team members will be charged the same price  ($298) for the months of June & July.

Pricing for August and the 2020-21 season:  All swimmers will be assessed the annual registration fee which will be due by August 1st.  All monthly dues will be adjusted to our new pricing module.  The number of swimmers we register in June and July will help us understand how to set up pricing and team size going forward into the fall.  All this information will be communicated as soon as we understand how many swimmers we can anticipate returning. We understand not knowing the price for the fall is an unknown, but please trust we are working hard to keep costs reasonable.

We understand there may be many questions surrounding this new model going forward and please understand we don't have all the answers yet.  What we are really trying to understand by the registration on Wednesday is how many swimmers we can anticipate coming back.  This will dictate our grouping, pricing and hiring.

SCHEDULING

Please be aware that with social distancing being an issue moving forward, we will have limited team space available.

Please see below for our proposed modified schedule for our team, as well as the safety precautions we will be taking.  Exact practice times and groups will be scheduled based on the number of athletes registering.

SAFETY EXPECTATIONS WHEN WE RETURN TO WATER

• When parking at Kedron, cars must leave a minimum of one space between each other. Cones will be used to mark spaces where vehicles MAY NOT park.

• Athletes will only be permitted to enter the building 5 minutes before their scheduled practice. If they arrive early, they must wait in their car until the appropriate time to enter the building.

• Athletes must leave Kedron immediately at the completion of any practice.

• Parents/spectators will not be allowed in the building at any time and are expected to practice social distancing when waiting for their swimmer. We understand this may bring Safe Sport concerns. With the bubble being completely off and our fence being transparent, we feel these practices are open and observable to meet Safe Sport standards. We will re-evaluate our procedures when we are allowed to do indoor training.

• Please use the front pool gate for entrance. All doors/gates to the facility will be propped open to limit contact with surfaces.

• Please use the exit near the pump room

• Athletes should be prepared to arrive and depart in their suits.

• You must bring your own equipment.  No on-deck group equipment will be available, i.e. Kickboards, and pull buoys.

• Athletes will have their temperature checked upon arrival (outside at the gate) and will not be permitted to enter should they show signs of a fever of 100.4F or higher.

•Restrooms will not be available for usage. We will keep practices less than 1 hour, so please use the bathroom before arriving.

• There will be a grid area for athletes to leave their personal belongings to ensure social distancing on the deck. Once athletes enter the building, they will immediately go to their grid spot and await instructions from their coach.

• Athletes should bring their own water bottles (already filled). The use of the water fountains at the facility will be prohibited.

• SCAT staff will be wearing PPE masks throughout Phase 1. We encourage anyone entering the building to do the same.

• Athletes will swim with a maximum of two (2) athletes per lane, starting from opposite ends of the pool. Please note that in most cases, we will be able to swim one (1) athlete per lane, also starting from opposite ends of the pool (please see the attached diagram)

• Any athlete or staff experiencing any symptoms of a fever (100.4°F or higher), recent cough, unusual fatigue, headache or has had any exposure to someone who has any symptoms, (which includes family and friends) should remain at home and seek medical treatment. If any athlete or staff does have a fever or symptoms of illnesses, they may not attend practice until 14 days after the fever or symptoms have ceased. Athletes and staff must see a physician and be cleared for training after being diagnosed or suspected to have COIVD-19.

• For us all to stay healthy and be able to keep swimming, we ask our athletes to please practice responsible social distancing when they are away from the pool as well.

• Athletes and families who travel by air, or to an area deemed high risk by the staff, will need to self-isolate for 14 days before returning to practice.

• SCAT staff will be disinfecting the pool’s hard surfaces between groups.

POSITIVE TEST PROCEDURE

Should someone test positive in our membership, the following measures will take place:

  1. The individual should let the staff know immediately.
  2. The individual or individuals swimming on either side of that athlete will be expected to self-quarantine for 14 days and/or receive a negative COVID-19 Test [we will be assigning lanes for all practices, so we are clear what athletes may be impacted by this].
  3. The facility will be shut down for no less than 24 hours to deep clean.

Best Regards,
