John Sands Joins Golden Bears

Welcome Coach John Sands to the Upper Arlington Swim Family

Following the retirement of Coach Dan Peterkoski in March, UASC in coordination with Upper Arlington City Schools' Athletic Department conducted a thorough nationwide search for a new coach.  We had a number of excellent candidates.

Following the interview process, we are proud to announce John Sands as our Head Women's Swim Coach for both Upper Arlington High School and our Club.

John has an extensive background in Central Ohio Swimming.  He was a State Champion in the 50 freestyle at Granville High School (having the fastest time in the country as a Senior).  He swam at the University of North Carolina , Chapel Hill .  After earning 2 Varsity letters for the Tar Heels, an ankle injury prematurely ended his career.

John has been the head coach at Watterson High School, Granville High School, and has coached a number of age groups at NAAC, most recently working with their national level sprinters.

He is also a history teacher at Westerville North High School, and is married with a 3-month old boy and 3-year old girl.

Please join us in welcoming John to the UA Swimming family!

We hope to have him on deck as soon as possible, and soon will formally introduce him to the girls and their families.

If you would like to reach out to him and introduce yourself, he set up an email at uacoachsands@gmail.com
