Summer State Meets Cancelled

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and its effects on training and competition, Georgia Swimming has determined, following the recommendation of the Age Group and Senior Committees, to cancel both of the 2020 Summer Long Course State Championships. We hope this will allow teams to focus on a safe, responsible return to training, alleviating any pressure, and the potential risk of injury on the part of our athletes. Our committees will continue working to develop strategies to return to competition, and we look forward to seeing our athletes compete at the Winter Short Course State Championships

USA Swimming Safe Sport Incentives

USA Swimming will be announcing incentives for clubs achieving Safe Sport Recognition. We were asked not to disclose the details of the incentives as they will be announced with a splash in a couple of weeks.  I will share as much information as I can.
If you want to receive one or both of the incentives your club must be one of the first 1500 clubs nationwide to achieve Safe Sport Recognition. Currently, there are 365 clubs that are Safe Sport recognized. There are a total of 3,200 clubs in the United States.  But, 500 more clubs have started the process. So if you are interested, you need to get off the block and finish before another 1,100 clubs finish before you.
One incentive is financial. The other involves a visit. Your club will be disappointed if you are not one of the first 1,500.
Thus far, we have 12 Safe Sport recognized teams in Georgia so these clubs will receive the incentives. I would love to have every club Safe Sport Recognized by the end of June to ensure you receive the incentives. Please contact me to talk about what you need to make this recognition happen for your club.

Thanks so much.

Executive Coordinator Megan Kingsley Resigns

An open letter to Georgia Swimming LSC, from the Executive Coordinator Megan Kingsley:

After more than two years as an intern, and over a year and a half as Executive Coordinator with Georgia Swimming, I will be moving on to a new chapter of life with retirement from professional swimming, as I am also getting married this fall. My last day as the Executive Coordinator of Georgia Swimming will be July 15th, 2020.

I was lucky to have been trained by Jessica Cooper, the former Executive Director, who helped me and inspired me to have a great vision for Georgia Swimming and for our athletes. We have become a great organization that USA Swimming is proud of, and we have supported our families and teams well even during trying times. With Jessica's help, I was able to increase our member engagement, creativity, marketing campaigns, and I am proud of the way we help and love our community.

Thank you for allowing me to learn while I too continued to pursue my dream to swim, while also accomplishing so much for our LSC. I know that the Board of Directors will continue to lead this LSC in a positive direction that you will all be proud of. I trust whoever will take my place and that they will have the best for Georgia Swimming LSC in their hearts as they help lead.

Regardless of where I find myself in the world, I will always remain part of the Georgia Swimming family. It has been a pleasure serving this LSC. I am grateful for all that I have learned, helped with, accomplished, and the memories made during my time with GA Swimming.

Megan Kingsley

Teaching Tuesday: How to Gain Confidence

Although many swimmers often are known to have issues with shoulders, we must never neglect our legs., specifically the knees and hips. Kicking can become a major strain on the legs over time and we must be careful to use proper form in every exercise we do that focuses on the lower body. Anyone that swims breaststroke can attest to the importance of stretching the legs and hips to ultimately decrease the likelihood of knee and hip injuries.
