Procedures for Summer Swimming - Practice Starts June 29

Hampton Dolphins Procedures for Training at the Hampton Community Pool

We believe swimming, like walking, hiking, running, and cycling, is a critical healthy activity within our communities. Swimming does not require direct contact between teammates or coaches and social distancing can be maintained throughout practice. As with all exercise and activity at this time, swimming must comply with standards for social distancing and safety within aquatic facilities. We know, with collaboration between USA Swimming, our governing body, coaches, public health officials, and facility operators we can create safe plans for using the community pool to promote physical and mental health opportunities compliant with public health directives. The CDC has indicated that there is no evidence the disease spreads through treated water. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine [2.0 PPM]) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water.

 SAFE PRACTICES/ PPE

 Requirements:

  • A coach or staff member will ask athletes, as they come into practice, if they feel ill in any way, specifically listing certain symptoms, and send home those athletes reporting feeling ill or experiencing symptoms.
    • Symptoms include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC.
    •  A Dolphins representative will be taking temperatures of all swimmers entering the facility.  If the swimmer registers a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, he/she will be sent home.
  • Swimmers should wear masks to and from practice and placed in zip lock storage bags during practice for protection.
  •  During practice, athletes/coaches who begin to cough/sneeze for any reason, must move away from others until coughing/sneezing dissipates.
  • Athletes must change clothes and shower at home.

Plan Building Considerations:

  • The Dolphins will have two to three coaches and one parent representative helping to control the flow of athletes in and out of the facility.
  •  Parents will be made aware of drop off and pick-up protocol prior to the first practice.
  • Athletes arriving late to practice will not be permitted to practice.
  • Parents will not be permitted to loiter and watch the practice.
  • Swimmers must be picked up at the conclusion of practice.  If parents are late picking up their swimmers the parents will receive one warning.  If late pick-up continues into the next practice, swimmers will not be permitted to attend any more practices.
  • Based on MWF.  One group of no more than 39 swimmers will be in the water for the duration of practice, maintaining social distancing procedures through the entirety of practice.
  • On TR State and Developmental- State 1.5 hours-15 kids, Developmental 45 min groups-First group 13 kids, 15 min gap, second group 13 kids, no more than 5 in a lane for this whole practice.
  • Social distancing protocols will be used based on USA Swimming guidelines (USA Swimming Facility Re-Opening Messaging and Planning), using opposite ends, numbers per lane, communication with athletes, starting and stopping stations, markers visible to athletes for start and stop points, (e.g., visible spacing marks on pool deck, on lane lines, etc.) coaches on both end of the pool
  • Coaching staff will implement the following safety protocols:
    •  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as masks
    •  Spacing

SWIMMING SAFELY

Preparing to Swim - Protect Against Infections:

  • Wash your hands with a disinfectant soap and water (for 20 seconds or longer) or use a hand sanitizer if soap and water are not readily available, before going to the pool.
  • Do not share equipment.
  •  Bring a full water bottle (with name of swimmer clearly displayed) to avoid touching a tap or water fountain handle.
  • If you need to sneeze or cough, do so into a tissue or upper sleeve/arm area.
  • Arrive as close as possible to when activity begins.
  •  Avoid touching gates, fences, benches, etc. if you can.
  • Swimmers will arrive at the pool with bathing suits and caps on and will not use the dressing room before or after practice.
  •  Swimmers will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entry into the pool area and before they start practice.
  • Swimmers will be asked to refrain from using restrooms if possible but will practice handwashing and sanitation if restrooms need to be used.
  •  Do not attend practice if you, or a member of your household does not feel well.
  • If you will be traveling, learn if coronavirus is spreading in any of the places you are going.  If you travel outside of the local community, it may increase the chances of exposing swimmers and coaches to COVID-19 and unknowingly spreading it to others.  If you and/or a member of your family have traveled to an area where COVID-19 is spreading or have been around someone with COVID19, please self-quarantine for 14 days before returning to practice.  Please see https://www.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/index.html for more information from CDC.
