Swim Team News July 1, 2020

Welcome to July!

Weird not having any real meets this season, but we’re still excited to see your kids a few times each week. Once again, everybody is really doing a great job at following all of our procedures. One reminder - please have the kids “mask up” right when they get out of the car, not just when they enter the pool deck. Check the attached photo for hints out how to wear a cap, goggles, and a mask at the same time!

This week we’ve be working out how we’ll collect times this season. At the end of practice the swimmers will be timed in the 25/50 freestyle event. These races are low key and really just for fun, but it does give us a chance to get some initial benchmarks for the swimmers. We’ll pick an event or two each week to swim. This should give swimmers at least some way to measure progress over our season. The GSSSL is also finalizing plans for a process to submit times for comparison between teams, as well as a final virtual “All City” meet. More details in next week’s email on this.

Dryland has been a great success his week. We’re adding sections for both 10U and 8U swimmers next week. You’ll sign up just as you do to reserve a spot for swim practices. Please limit yourself to one (1) dryland section per week. (Extra spots can be filled for a second dryland 30 minutes before class starts). Also - please remember to bring a yoga mat or towel as we can not share any of our equipment.

Swim practices are still limited to two (2) per week. You may add a 3rd, if available, after the Wednesday night email (the one you are reading now) is sent out. This gives  everyone on the team a fair chance to get at water time. Sign ups for the following week’s workouts will also open up at this same time.

At this time we do not have any of our Aqua Club team caps for sale. Team suits are also not being sold this year. Do feel free to visit local stores or shop online for racing suits, goggles, and caps. We also have a team store via SwimOutlet with all sorts of great spirit wear for you to purchase.

Stay safe -
