UASC Board of Directors Nominees

UASC Board of Directors Nominees

Each spring, the club holds an election to fill open spots and renew current members on the Board of Directors. We would typically hold an election during the short course banquet. This year, due to COVID-19, we decided to hold the current positions as we navigated through the spring and summer months. This year, we will hold an on-line election on Friday, August 14th and announce the new board on Monday, August 17th. The new board will go into effect immediately. We will use a Google docs format that will be sent out to each member via team unify.

For your information, here is the list of candidates and a little something about each one.

The Nominees are (with their respective biographies):

Brian Campbell

My wife, Amy, and I, and our twins, Ben and Emmy have been actively involved in competitive swimming since our kids were seven. We joined the Upper Arlington Swim Club in the fall of 2017 from another local club in the area.

I had served as an uncertified administrative official for our former club and recently went through the required training to become a certified USA swimming administrative official for UASC. During our home meets, you will likely see me running the computers high in the corner of the natatorium for many of the sessions!

I am also a partner and tax industry leader for retail at KPMG LLP and I lead their tax practice in Columbus. In addition to being passionate about swimming, I also enjoy fly fishing and golf in my free time.

I am current board member and would like to continuing serving the UASC board.

Jana Herzog

My name is Jana Herzog and I am excited for the opportunity to be considered for the Upper Arlington Swim Club (UASC) Board of Directors. Swimming has played an important role throughout my entire life. I grew up in Hamilton, Ohio and began swimming for the local YMCA, moved to the Miami University Aquatic Club Makos program, continued as a varsity swimmer at Stephen T. Badin High School and then graduated from Wittenberg University as a team co-captain. My first job at 15 years old, was a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA, which then lead to the swim lesson coordinator position at the City of Oxford municipal pool. I spent my collegiate summers as an assistant coach for the New London Hills Country Club in Hamilton, OH. I was the coach for over 62 10 & Under swimmers and loved every minute of it! Once I moved to Columbus, I also taught swim lessons in the evenings for a few years at the Hilliard YMCA on a part time basis. I was thrilled when my daughter Adelyn, age 8, fell in love with the sport of swimming and is now in her first year with UASC.

My husband, Michael, and I met at Wittenberg and have two children, Adelyn, and Christopher, age 6. Because of swimming, Adelyn has grown, developing confidence, a strong work ethic, and lasting friendships all of which she will carry forward throughout her swim career and as a member of the Upper Arlington community. I am also involved in Adelyn’s Barrington brownie troop as a cookie coordinator and troop volunteer and am a second year St. Agatha Sunday school teacher to over 20 very active Kindergarten students!

Professionally, I have over 17 years of commercial banking experience and work for JPMorgan Chase in Middle Market focusing on companies in the $20-$100 million revenue space providing them credit structures, and cash management solutions. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling and cheering on the Columbus Blue Jackets!

Thank you for your consideration as I look forward to using my knowledge, skills, and abilities to help further grow UASC and the sport of swimming.

Valerie Kennedy

My name is Valerie Kennedy and I would be honored to continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the Upper Arlington Swim Club. My husband, Jason and I have two boys that swim: Grant, a Golden Bear and Colin, a Black Bear. Over the past seven years, UASC has made such a positive impact on our boys in so many ways. Not only have they improved as swimmers, but they have made many strong friendships, developed self-discipline and a sense of responsibility through the sport.

Professionally, I am self-employed as an Executive Recruiter. I have my Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio State University and my MBA from Franklin University. While in school, I was employed by Ohio State University Aquatics as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor. In my youth, I swam competitively for Dayton Raiders.

I have served as a UASC Meet Manager for the Regional Championships for three years. I was also active in the master planning process for the new UAHS Natatorium. I truly enjoy volunteering my time to such a fine organization and look forward to the opportunity of continuing to serve. Thank you for the consideration.

Bob Muhn

My name is Bob Muhn and I am excited for the opportunity to be considered for the Upper Arlington Swim Club Board of Directors. Swimming played an important role in my childhood, growing up in Sandusky, Ohio, where I was a member of the Vacationland Swim Club (VSC) for 7 years. It was not only a critical life skill to develop, but also an activity that created confidence, taught me self-discipline, and built physical and mental toughness.

My kids, Finn (10) and Kirby (8), have been in love with the water since their first lessons. We discovered the UASC in 2018, and now both boys are members of the team. Of all the youth sports programs that we have taken part in, the UASC has by far been our best experience. Since joining the team our kids have flourished socially, mentally, and physically.

One of the ways that I have tried to give back to the Upper Arlington community is by coaching youth sports.... baseball, flag football, and basketball. It would be a privilege to have the opportunity to give back to this wonderful swim team as well, by joining the board.

Professionally, I am the Chief Administrative Officer for the Office of the CIO and the Office of Distance Learning and eLearning at Ohio State University. This is a role that focuses on creating efficiencies and thought leadership in higher education - skills that I believe would be beneficial to help further grow UASC.

Thank you very much for your consideration!

Allison Petty

My name is Ali Petty and I appreciate the opportunity to be considered for the UASC Board of Directors. This club has meant a lot to me both currently as well as growing up. I swam for UASC from the time I was six years old all the way through high school and it was an amazing experience for me. Many of my close friendships today began in the pool at the high school and at Northwest Swim Club. I am so happy that my two boys have also decided to swim, and I see the same excitement in them as they go to practice, swim in meets and build lifelong friendships with their teammates.

My husband Travis is originally from Louisville, Kentucky and we have two boys, Jackson (13) and Cooper (11) who enjoy swimming, soccer and hanging out with their dog Louis and their new puppy George. I grew up in Upper Arlington and then graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2002 with Accounting and Decision Sciences degrees.

I am a Senior Vice President and Director of Enterprise Risk at Fifth Third Bank. Most of my career was spent in the Audit Department at Fifth Third in Cincinnati, but when we moved to Columbus, I decided to try a new opportunity at JPMorgan Chase helping them build their audit program specifically related to Risk Management. Five years ago I decided to leave Chase and go back to Fifth Third in my current Enterprise Risk role.

I am grateful for this opportunity to continue my role as a Board member for UASC. It has been such a wonderful experience for me these past two years and I look forward to continuing to serve. Thank you!
