GOAL Registration Info: Fall/Winter 2020-21

Hello, and welcome to GOAL’s registration information for the 2020-21 season!

GOAL starts back up on Mon. Aug. 17 for it’s 2020-21 short course season.  Please read this closely, as there are several very important items regarding GOAL’s upcoming season:

  • Due to the continuing Covid-19 Pandemic, we will not be holding the GOAL end-of-summer-season Beach Party this year.
  • An online registration for the upcoming season will begin at 6 PM on Wed. Aug. 12 for currently active GOAL members.  The registration will be open on Thursday Aug. 13 for prospective new GOAL members.
  • Westgate Pool is scheduled to install a heater in late August, and will remain open for GOAL as late into the Fall as weather permits.  We are currently working on a practice pool for Seniors & Sharks after the date that the Westgate Pool will be drained for the season.  This may affect other practice groups schedules as well, therefore we are delaying announcing a set schedule for the period of the season after Westgate Pool is drained.  An update will be posted and e-maile out when it is decided.
  • GOAL practice pools this season:

Our main practice pools this season will be Montclair Community Center (2304 S. 135thAve.), Westgate Pool (8233 Grover St.), College of St. Mary’s (CSM – So. 72nd& Cedar St.), and Mockingbird Community Center (10242 Mockingbird Dr.).  Due to the pandemic, we are not expecting the be able to use Burke H.S. pool at all this year, nor the UNO pool.  We are working with some other possibilities to give us more options this season.

1.      Information regarding the upcoming short course season GOAL Online Registration:  Each year we do an online registration in August for the fall short course season.  For Penguins and Dolphins this online registration will set your new practice schedule starting when those groups start back up on Monday Aug. 17.  Current GOAL families will be allowed to register for practice slots in an early registration period, on Wed Aug. 12 at 6 PM.  On Thursday Aug. 13, the registration platform will be opened for everyone, including new/prospective families.

For brand new, prospective GOAL members, on Thur. Aug. 13 the online registration platform will be opened up for you to register for a spot to try us out as early as the week of Aug. 17.  For new members, in order to register for a practice group spot, you must have either done an evaluation swim to get a practice group assignment, or you must have been assigned a practice group by a GOAL coach.  Please do not try and guess at a practice group, or register for a practice group different from what you’ve been assigned.  Contact Vickie Beck (vsaibeck@aol.com) to set up an evaluation swim on or after Aug. 10 if you have not yet done so.

For returning GOAL members, you must sign up for the practice group where you finished up the summer, unless your coach tells you that you have been moved to a different practice group.  For the Sharks, Senior and Senior-national levels, you may attend any of the practices Mon-Sat for your group, so you will not be selecting certain practice days during the registration process like the Penguins and Dolphins will need to do.

Registering for a Penguin or Dolphin group for the Fall of 2020.

When registering for a practice spot in the Dolphins and Penguins, there are two different options to choose from.  The Penguins and Dolphins have practice times every day except Sunday.  The important thing to know about the Penguin & Dolphin practice group schedules is that the schedule you choose when registering offers 3 practices per week (Also, see info on a new option, Penguin or Dolphin once a week group, in the paragraph below). You may not attend days/practice times that are outside of your registered schedule of practices, unless you make permanent schedule change with Vickie Beck (space permitting – vsaibeck@aol.com).  I.e., if your child is a Mon/Wed/Fri-late Dolphin grouper, you cannot bring them to a Tuesday practice, or a Wednesday-early practice, simply because something came up in your schedule that week that prevented you from attending all 3 practices in your normal schedule.  We do not guarantee that you will be able to attend 3 practices per week when you sign up for a GOAL Penguin or Dolphin group.  We only guarantee that we will save your spot in the 3 practice times that you registered for (and have subsequently been approved for).  If we allowed swimmers to attend any practice times they wanted to, the safe/effective number of kids per lane and coach:swimmer ratio would not be able to be controlled, affecting the safety and quality of our practices.  Also, during the pandemic we need to maintain homogeneous groups as much as possible.

Penguin-1, Dolphin-1.  These groups are once-a-week options for the Penguin or Dolphin grouper. Contact Vickie Beck at vsaibeck@aol.com to choose a practice day/time that has available space.  This was created to give people a lower-time commitment beginning to our team due to their schedule of other activities or desired commitment level.  Swimmers may change status between 3 times per week and once a week (or vice versa), space permitting, a maximum of two times per calendar year.  No exceptions to this.  Penguin-1 monthly dues will be $60, and Dolphin-1 dues will be $67.

Please contact Vickie Beck at with any questions, or if you’d like to see about moving practice times.  We normally do not allow short-term practice schedule changes (i.e. this week we have a school program on Thursday, can I come at another time instead?), but we will allow long-term changes space-permitting (i.e. we are doing basketball until February, can we change nights until then?).

The $100 per swimmer membership fee (prorated for multi-family 3rd+ swimmers) will be assessed during the online registration process, and is paid by your credit card at that time.   Also, anyone with an outstanding GOAL balance will not be allowed to register without paying off their balance with a credit card.  Those registering for a free trial week, this fee will be refunded if you choose to not stay with GOAL.
