I hope that this email finds all of you well.
This year has been a challenge and continues to be one.
We are working on what the upcoming season will look like, and it will be different than it has in the past.
Some of the challenges that we are facing:
1. We can only have far fewer swimmers in the pool at once than before. We can have fewer people on the pool deck than before.
2. The Pool is opened less than before and we have to share the pool still with members. This is always a balance, but they are also restricted to less occupancy. The pool and YMCA also closes earlier.
Because of these challenges, we are looking at some creative solutions to address these concerns. Some of these options may be an morning practice for High School Students, while keeping afternoon practices for middle school and elementary students. THIS IS JUST AN IDEA---- let me know thoughts!!
We are also trying to design what our season is going to look like. Honestly, it does not look like meets are going to look like they did last year for any of the local YMCA teams or USA teams. I have been in touch with USA teams... they are in the same boat. I want things to go back to the way things were last year, but I just don't know when that will be the case.
We MAY have the option of doing some virtal meets. Those meets we swim at our location and submit our times with other teams either locally or even anywhere in the nation to "compete" with them. I just don't know when it will be okay to have hundreds of people on a pool deck again. When that will be a smart idea. I get. I am as broken hearted as you are about it... if not more so. But, we are swimmers. We train to be mentally tough and to deal with whatever comes our way. We can deal with this too.
We will be doing time trials. These are events that we swim in practice that we chart how fast you swim so we can chart your progress in events. We will work hard in goal setting and improving strokes technique- just like last year!
If you are interested in the 2020-2021 year- please let me know! If you are not, that is okay. Please drop me a not and let me know how life is treating you!
