I recieved this email today from Abbey Tuchscherer. Abbey was the heart and soul of the OSHY team throughout the 2000's. (Famous for among other things 5 x1000 fly and making 46 YMCA National finals) After her OSHY career she moved on the the University of Iowa, where she was a team captain and school record holder.
Abbey asked if we could pass along this email to the OSHY family
As you may have seen in recent news, the University of Iowa announced that they will be cutting the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Program effective after the 2020-2021 season. This was devastating news for me and so many others. It’s been hard to put into words just how much that program has meant to me and how proud I was to be a student-athlete for that team.
Current swimmers, alumni, and fans have been working hard to reverse this decision by raising awareness and spreading the word about the choice made by the Athletic Department. We believe that an impact can be made by signing our petition (see link below) and continuously sharing information through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, local news outlets, etc. around this event. It is my goal to continue to be as loud as I can by leaning on my connections to keep the fight going in hope for a change.
I’m reaching out to see if you would be willing to pass along this communication to the OSHY team and other coaches you know to ask if they would be willing to sign the petition, share it with their network, and continue to talk about this loss.
