GJY - COVID-19 Swim Practice Guidelines

COVID-19 SYMPTOMS

● Athletes who are ill are not able to attend. Athletes who have had any

members in their household ill may not attend for 14 days. Report any illness

to your coach so they can trace and ensure the safety of all athletes.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

● Athletes are required to wear a cloth mask into and out of the facility.

● Coaches will wear masks into and out of the building and have sanitizer

available. Coaches will keep 6’+ social distancing except in emergency

situations.

LOCKER ROOM ACCESS

● Locker rooms will be available for use, however a very limited amount of

lockers are available for use.  We recommend coming to practice in your suit

ready to swim and then changing in the locker rooms after practice.

Swimmers have to be out of the YMCA by 6:10 after the 5 to 6 practice and

8:10 after the 6 to 8 practice so kids will not have time to shower.  They will

need to shower at home.

●YMCA of the USA Swimming rules prohibit deck changing.

● Athletes will be allowed to use the restroom in the locker rooms one at a

time. YMCA of the USA Swimming recommends using the bathroom before

attending practice.

TRAINING GROUPS & PRACTICES

● Coaches will determine groups according to ability, family needs and other

guidelines necessary.

●YMCA of the USA and CDC Guidelines will be followed. 

AFTER PRACTICE

●Athletes will be leaving the facility out the door in the hallway by the pool.

●Please make sure that you park close to that door when picking up your

child.

●A coach will monitor the exit area after practice to make sure swimmers

are safely returned to a parent and older driving swimmers safely return to

their cars.

● Make sure that you are available to get your child after practice.

SPECTATORS

●Due to Social Distancing guidelines, Parents and/or Chaperones will not be

permitted to stay and watch athletes during practice.  You should wait in

your cars or come back to pick them up.  If you have a membership you can

make a reservation to work out in the YMCA in another workout area while

the YMCA is open from 5 to 6.  At least for the month of September the YMCA

will be closed at 6 during our practice time so you will not be able to use

the YMCA during our 6 to 8 practice time.

  • EQUIPMENT

●Water bottles are recommended and must have an athlete’s name on it. 

Athletes will be given a kickboard as long as we have them available and a

pool buoy (if needed) from the bin to take home with them.  They must bring

the equipment back to practice each time they come. If they forget to bring

their equipment back to practice then the athlete will not have equipment to

use for that practice.  They are permitted to bring their own kickboard and

pool buoy if they have them. Caps and goggles must be put on by the athlete

themselves. Due to social distancing guidelines coaches are not permitted to

help put on athlete caps and goggles.  We will not be handing out goggles or

caps. If your child forgets their goggles they will be swimming without them

that day or we will have them call you to bring them a pair.
