Peggy Ewald

·         Bio

Peggy Ewald served as head coach of the Ohio Northern men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs for 14 seasons from 2005-18. Ewald was also an assistant coach at ONU in 2003-04 prior to becoming head coach in 2004.

In her 14 seasons at the helm, Ewald guided the men’s team to Ohio Athletic Conference Championships titles in 12 of those years and the women’s team to seven OAC titles.

The Polar Bear men won 11 OAC Regular Season Championships and have had 17 OAC Swimmers of the Year, 99 OAC Individual titles, 48 OAC relay titles, 13 NCAA All-Americans, 36 Academic All-OAC honorees and were named a Scholar All-America Team for three seasons.

The ONU women have won 10 OAC Regular Season crowns, have had five OAC Swimmers of the Year, 75 OAC Individual titles, 38 OAC relay titles, eight Scholar All-Americans, six Scholar All-American Teams and 67 Academic All-OAC honorees.

She was named the OAC Men’s Coach of the Year in ’18, ’16, ’12, ’11, ’10, ’09, ’08 and ’05 and the OAC Women’s Coach of the Year in ’18, ’12, ’11, ’09, ’07 and ’06.

Her squads set 161 school records during her tenure.

Ewald is a ASCA Level 4 certified swimming coach in three areas including Age Group, NCAA and Disability swimming and has 25 years of coaching experience working with novice to National Champions.

She is one of the Level III (of III levels) coaches on the travel list with the US Paralympic Team.

She was the head coach for the US Paralympic team for the 2007 Para Pan Am Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; was the head coach for the 2009 Youth ParaPan Am Games in Bogota, Columbia; was the Team Leader for the 2011 Para Pan Am Games Team in Guadalajara, Mexico; served as an assistant coach for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, was an Assistant Team Leader for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, England, and was an assistant coach for sport science at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

She was also with Team USA as Sports Science Specialist for 2013 World championships in Montreal, Canada, 2014 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena, Calif., the 2015 World Championships in Glasglow, Scotland, and in 2016 she was an assistant coach for a World Series Meet in Sheffield, England, and in Indianapolis.

She will be part of the staff for the World Championships this fall in Mexico City.

She served with the non-profit group Dare2Tri out of Chicago, Ill., for the Annual Para triathlete Training Camps. Ewald served as an open water swimming coach in 2014, 2016 and 2016.

She received her B.A. degree in business administration with honors from Tiffin University in 1989 and earned a M.A. in education from Heidelberg College in 1996
