LCSC Coho Update 20 September 2020

LCSC Coho Update             20 September 2020

Fall 2020 Covid-19 Reminder
We are thrilled to be training together in water!  Thank you to our LCSC Board of Directors for their relentless pursuit of a solution for this challenging time, to Fairway Farms, Burton Hollow, and the City of Livonia for leasing us water time, all of our parents, and all of our Coho swimmers.  “Safety First” has new meaning this year: follow CDC guidelines for social distancing, hand washing, monitoring for symptoms of Covid-19; being aware of the modified entry/exit procedures at facilities; and understanding that we don’t fully understand this virus.   Please conduct the home health survey each morning, and report to the coaches at sign-in that you are “Covid Safe.”

Schedule Update: September Training at Burton Hollow
We have two more week of outdoor training at Burton Hollow Swim Club.  Congratulations to Emily Pitera and Josey Coon for leading the way into the water on a chilly Saturday morning!  All practices this week and next are to run as scheduled.

October Training at the Jack E. Kirksey Community Recreation Center
LCSC begins fall training at the LCRC on Monday, October 5.  A preliminary schedule has been developed and will be posted later this week.
An important consideration as we move indoors is that each practice session will be limited to 42 Coho swimmers.  This is the maximum number we are allowed in the Rec pool at one time (we will be renting all 8 lanes).  Because of this, all of our groups are essentially full at this time and we have many swimmers from outside the club lining up on the waiting list to join our program.  Flexibility in training options has been a convenience LCSC families have enjoyed, but this year requires careful planning and restricted participation.
Our indoor schedule reduces the SR/Platinum group to one training time, 3:00-5:00, M-F.  Swimmers currently in the SR/Platinum groups need to confirm with Coach Vince that they are able to swim at that time during the remainder of Session I, and just as important, Senior swimmers are expected to meet their requirement of 5 practices/week, and Platinum swimmers are expected to meet their requirement of 4 practices/week.  As there is a waiting list for these groups, LCSC coaches are currently reviewing attendance records to analyze which swimmers are meeting the SR/Platinum attendance standards.  Gold/Silver/Bronze will have training time 5:00-6:30, and we are considering some variations in those groups to increase space for new swimmers.

Coho Racing Plan Update
Our fall indoor schedule will include racing opportunities beginning with an intrasquad meet in mid-to-late October, followed by “mini-meets” with other local teams scheduled in November and December.  Because of limited individuals on the pool deck at one time, all meets, including the intrasquad will allow smaller portions of the team to participate at any one time.

Thank You for a Safe Summer and looking forward to a Safe School Year,
Team Coho!
