October 4, 2020
Dear AMS Parents and Athletes,
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee would like to invite all swimmers ages 13 and up to the 2020 Wellness Workshop on Saturday October 17, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Thelma Lovett YMCA. Mental health is the foundation of success in athletics, especially in the sport of swimming. It is critical for athletes to understand how to cope with stressors from their sport as well as outside sources. The goal of the workshop is for athletes to understand it is okay to seek help.
This year’s Wellness Workshop includes an extensive agenda to help athletes learn how to deal with stress and understand a basic, healthy mental routine. The day will begin with a presentation of the movie Weight of Gold, a documentary that covers in-depth mental health experiences with Olympic athletes featuring Michael Phelps. A light snack will be provided during the film. Our guest speaker, Donato Fanelle, a consultant from KPX consulting, will discuss the topics of mental training & peak performance. Coach Lucas Marsak, the head coach of North Hills Aquatics, will take the group through light meditation breathing exercises and yoga poses to help calm the body and mind behind the block. These exercises can be used in the pool and also navigating through life. We will conclude the day with a Q&A for swimmers to ask any questions they have.
The Diversity and Inclusion committee is excited to host this event and look forward to seeing all the swimmers as we dive into the fall swimming season.
Bring a yoga mat, a mask, and a water bottle
