Alex Black Named Associate Head Coach for YMCA of NWNC RipTYDE Swim Team

We are pleased to “welcome home” Alex Black who has been named Associate Head Coach for TYDE.  Alex will be starting in his new position with TYDE on October 26.  He is an alumnus of WSY, the predecessor of TYDE, and has been involved in North Carolina Swimming his entire life.
A native of Lewisville, NC, Alex graduated from Forsyth Country Day School where he was a High School All-American in the Breaststroke and Butterfly, and State Champion, undefeated his entire High-School career.  He swam with the Winston-Salem YMCA (WSY/TYDE) at Y Nationals, medaling multiple times and was a USA Swimming Junior Nationals Finalist and USA Swimming Sr. Nationals qualifier.  Alex went on to swim competitively for Southern Methodist University and was a Western Athletic Conference finalist.
Coach Alex is a Life Member of the American Swim Coach's Association (ASCA) and holds ASCA Level 4 certification with two decades of coaching experience in USA Swimming.  Coach Alex has coached all levels of swimmers from age group neophytes to senior National Qualifiers during his stints at the Dallas Mustangs Swim Club, the Goldsboro YMCA, and Gateway YWCA Seadragons.  He has also coached high school swimmers who achieved All-American status.  He has been on the coaching staff of the NC Zone Team on nine occasions - twice as Head Coach.  Coach Alex was inducted into the Forsyth Country Day School Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.  His pride and joy are his wife Betty and son Joel.
